Red Hill Double Barrel Imperial Stout
Aged in a Whisky Soaked Oak Barrel
650 ML Bottle poured into a Tulip
A-- Poured black, no light penetrating this at all. Large, fluffy 3 finger dark mocha head when poured. Took a couple of minutes to recede to a touch above film. One finger head on swirling and same results on head. Good retention to this. After initial head thought medium carbonation. Good looking beer.
S-- Weak nose. A little bit of coffee, chocolate, coconut and Oak. Had to really swirl beer to get these flavors. Really must not have left it on the barrel very long at all.
T-- Oak, chocolate dairy milk, and mocha. Starts off well but pretty straight forward.
M-- Oak drops off very quickly in mouth and it goes to a sweet dairy milk chocolate and mocha flavor. More like a sweet hot chocolate really. Get a bit of whisky in the mid and back of the mouth but small flashes. Not big at all. Mostly smooth and a touch thin. Medium to light body, carbonation and finishes very clean with just bits of coffee.
O-- Could have used more time in the barrel as the flavors are there but very weak. ABV is well hidden and this is easy to drink. Not bad but not great. Prefer the regular version much more.
