Poured from the can at our hotel restaurant in Lhasa.

The beer pours a bright gold color with minimal lacing or head. What little head there is, disappears a couple of seconds after the pour. The large bubbles and gassy appearance complete the initial impression... this is a mass produced macro swill/light adjunct lager made with little concern when it comes to producing an interesting, flavorful beverage. On the nose, I get some very light corn and grain, and pretty much nothing else. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this light, watery glass of swill. The best thing I can think of to say about this beer is that at least it's clean and inoffensive. There are no weird or off flavors in it. Mouthfeel is light and watery, with really no finish to speak of. Alcohol is barely noticeable (I was surprised it was as high as 4.6 abv.), but so what? This beer is drinkable only in the sense that it's a decent choice for uncritical, mindless quaffing/pounding on a hot summer's day.

So a couple of thoughts about this beer. Obviously, this isn't a very good beer, though given the other options available in town, I would not be at all surprised to learn that it sells pretty well (at the restaurant, it was either this stuff or Budweiser brewed in Sichuan). Even so, the BA score for this beer is more than a bit puzzling. Even by comparison to other pretty lame Euro pale lagers I've sampled over the years, this stands out as particularly weak. So it seems a bit odd that anyone would rate this beer OK or better.

This beer was available at lunch today as well, and having learned my lesson, I ordered water this time around instead of the Lhasa (as did nearly everyone in our tour group). In other words, one and done for me.

Purchased the year they said they won a gold medal at the world beer championships. Must have been in a weak category.

Yellow appearance like that of AAL macro. Nothing going on aroma wise, search for it type of grain can be found.

The hopping was traditional and the carbonation was lively. Saaz style hopping. Ok, this is a pretty good lager despite the marketing and whatnot. Still kind of expensive, but probably the best beer I've had from China.
