This IPA is on the darker end of the range, a clear orange-bronze. It forms a creamy off-white head up to almost three fingers initially. It falls slowly, sitting dense and rocky and finally dropping to a hard half-finger and never past. Webbing is left from where the head's fallen at its height to the top of the beer, then leaves one of the thickest rings I've seen where it's settled.
Beyond that, it leaves some pretty nice patching.
There's a nice pine and earth to the aroma. Interestingly, while I don't think any English varietal is used, there's definitely a metallic note. Something herbal and mildly biscuity makes for a pretty complete beer overall.
The taste follows suit well, some raw, resinous pine and pith, citrus rind, and a light combination of biscuit and caramel letting hops take over. The metallic and herbal notes carry through underneath and into a lingering finish.
The body is medium and crisp, though it wears a little thin as it goes. Crispness doesn't have quite enough bite to keep up. A little smoothness pulls through sporadically.

Clear amber with two fingers of off white head. Average lacing. Head lasts about five minutes.
Smell is floral and earthy hops with some grain husks.
Taste is big on pine bitterness that all but masks the more fruity hop character. Malts are about right for the style. A light hint of chocolate a bit toward the dark or slightly burnt flavor.
Too much pine resin effect for my tastes in a NWIPA. I like them toward the floral or fruity direction.
Mouthfeel was full with just enough carbonation to give some spice toward the end.
Overall a decent IPA but maybe the more flavorful hops have faded as it has an enjoy by date of 11-14-13 about five weeks to go.

12oz : into a SN IPA Glass

Clear amber with a thick, foamy off white head and nice lacing.

The hops are piney, earthy, spicy for the most part, but seems a bit subdued overall. Bready, lightly sweet malts. Lightly bitter finish.

Medium+ body with mild foamy carbonation.

An average IPA, it has potential, but I would have liked to see a more prominent hop profile.

Dark orangey amber color in the wine tumbler. Plenty of foam that lasts well. Quite attractive and the mouthfeel is spritzy and full. Not much of an aroma for a hoppy beer.

Some hints of malty sweetness, but briefly. This is the classic bitter IPA. This has the bitter, burnt biscuit taste. It even has that baking powder astringency. A nutty sweet flavor almost saves it, but then the hop machine rolls over everything. Some modest aromatic notes, but mostly it's just bitter.

After half a glass this seems harsh and penitential. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Pioneer Market in La Conner.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a respectable head that leaves some lacing behind

Smell: Sweet and almost cidery with a hint of pine underneath

Taste: Tastes like it smells with a growing bitterness building in the finish; the IBUs seem somewhat high but the taste is a bit too far off in a piney direction and slightly metallic, to boot

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I suspect that there are a lot of great IPAs coming out of Portland; this isn't one of them
