The Standing Wave is ok...the beer poured a hazy amber with thin white head that is not lacing. The scent is slightly bitter from the hops. The taste starts malty then finishes bitter...their is a slight pine twang throughout. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall this would be fine to session, but its not a beer that is going to knock anyone's sox off.

A: Off-white head that settles to a thin veil. Leaves a decent amount of lace. Translucent dried apricot color with virtually no visible carbonation.

S: Hop forward aromas of grapefruit, and some tropical fruit notes like mango. A hint of blueberry. Some sweeter malt notes of caramel.

T: Moderate hop notes of grapefruit, again a hint of tropical fruits. Some sweeter malt notes as well.

M: Deceivingly carbonated based on the appearance. Moderate thickness.

D: I received this beer as part of a beer of the month club. It is a solid pale ale (though it kind of drinks like an IPA). I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of this beer, considering the plethora of weak pale ales out there. Nice job, Kannah. If I could buy the beer here I would as a go to pale ale.

A : pours a lovely brassy gold, slightly off white head that is pillowy and doesn't really go anywhere. Bottle date says 10•10•13
S: bready malts, piney hops, a hint of light honey sweetness.
T: solid base malt transitions to zippy and peppery hops. Bitter pine and leaf in the middle on top of honey like sweetness. Ends a bit musty as expected from the age.
M: medium bodied, with a bit more carbonation than usual. Lingering bitterness.

A pretty solid pale ale. Very hoppy for a regular pale, even with the age of it. If I had to guess I'd say the abv is somewhere in the low 5 area. I also like the camping/outdoorsy label.

Appearance: pours a slightly hazy dark ornage color with a 3" head that lasts a long time. Moderate lace paints the glass.

Smell: bread and a bit of citrus comes through to the nose.

Taste: caramel, bread, orange, a hint of lemon zest, golden apples, and a mild bitterness are the main flavor components.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with some mild dryness arriving late. Short lasting aftertaste,

Overall: an easy to drink pale ale. Decent flavor profile.

Kannah Creek Brewery Standing Wave Pale Ale: Some friends my wife and I were visiting in Grand Junction, Colorado took us to the local brewpub, Kannah Creek. I am not one to review beers at brewpubs, as my focus is usually the company and the food, which distracts one from a mindful assessment of the beer at hand. But at Kannah Creek the Standing Wave Pale Ale was fantastic, so merits a mention here. Golden in body, with a nice head that laces the glass, the Standing Wave Pale Ale has a presence in the aroma department. Flavor fits my idea of a Pale Ale like a glove: delicate hoppy notes on top a smooth structured malt base. Really a joy to enjoy! If in Grand Junction, check out Kannah Creek.

Big, white, rocky and creamy head sits atop a clear, honey-amber colored body. Light and gently sweet malt aroma with a subtle floral and pine scented hop presence. Warm honey and biscuit flavors with a nice hop bitterness at the finish. Crisp, clean, dry finish.

This beer is very approachable and a nice, easy drinking pale ale. There is a mellow fruitiness that peeks out after the beer has warmed up in the glass that adds some additional complexity to the mix. Overall, nicely balanced with respectable complexity.
