Old review needed updating, I believe the place has changed hands 2-3 times since my original review. Unfortunately not for the better.

No real work has been done in the building in years. The beer selection itself is still decent but I question the age of just about every selection. Just looks shabby in there, needs a lot of work.

The decent selection may be the best in town outside of the better grocery stores but that's probably more a statement on Independence being a beer desert. If you can't make any more stops and you are there, you will find something ok in a pinch bit watch the dates. Otherwise find a Hy-Vee.

Been here a few times, and each time I get turned away more and more.

Vibe: Bright fluorescent light grocery store vibe with simple steel shelves.

Quality: There are some surprising quality offerings here. Overall, meh.

Service: It can be wishy-washy between days. Some days the clerk is very helpful, other days not so much at all.

Selection: Again, surprising selection for the area. Pleasantly surprised to find some Prairie and Mikkeller's offered.

Overall: I am bummed. This is a local place, with a pretty decent selection and at a great price. I walk in with a smile every time, and leave frowning. I suppose I'd pay the dollar extra per six pack for service.

Bubbles has been under new ownership/management since about 2012. A very nice young couple took it over, and made immediate improvements in service and selection. Their beer selection is just better than average for our area, as many supermarkets over here carry a huge selection of craft brews and Euro brews. But, Bubbles II (as it is now called) carries DAB, and that is my favorite beer. But, to me, the best thing about this place is their Scotch selection. Everyone in Kansas City knows Gomer's, and how good their selection is. But, Justin has worked diligently to ensure a whisky selection that rivals that of Gomer's. And the place is just north of I-70 a couple blocks, so it's convenient.

EDIT: Each repeat visit gets more and more disappointing. Selection isn't much better than a gas station.

Newer Edit: The guy running the place had never heard of HopSlam.

This is an odd place. It seemed rather empty. There was lots of empty floor place. There was a small selection of craft brews (most of the common brands available in MO). The build your own six-pack selection was even smaller. There may have been 25-30 brews to choose from (not a single beer that was new to me). They did have some Belgians sitting on their sides in wine racks. It was early May and they still had a large collection of Christmas brews. It is less than a mile off of I-70, but it was a waste of my time after earlier visists to both Lukas stores.

Moderately nice shop area with a good inventory of wines and liquors as well as beer. Approximately 150 beers stocked, the majority being imports or micro-brews along wiith the standard macros. Beer lines are rotated so there are usually at least two or three new brews in every week.
Employee expertise varies considerably, especially in ragard to the more exotic beers, but they provide a beer "manual" with descriptions of various styles, food/beer recommendations and reviews of over 300 beers. This is updated as new beers are brought in. They also feature a large "mix and match display where you can purchase single bottles of beers you might want to try. Prices range from $1.25 up to about $4.00 for 12 oz bottles
The previous owner was very much into promoting the more premium beers. This slacked up for a while but seems to be well back on line now.
