On-tap at Front Street Ale House, San Juan, WA.

To start, I haven't met many ESB's that I truly enjoyed. Chalk one up for the English Ale styles!

Pours a gorgeous burnt mahogany hue beneath a rocky, well-retained khaki head. Thick lacing becomes patchy as the beer level drops. This one smells enticing, with wafts of resinous, citrusy grapefruit hops backed by a plethora of sugary, caramel malts.

Flavor starts out with an initial prang of medicinal-esque hop oils that are immediately followed by grapefruit and resin notes. This is all balanced nicely by a big caramel presence. Mouthfeel is smooth, yet crisp and nicely carbonated. Bluebird Bitter finishes with a lingering, hoppy citrus note. All in all, an excellent ESB, and one I won't soon forget. It's a shame they didn't have any bombers of this to purchase at the brewery... (847 characters)
