A- Dark golden almost orange like amber.

S - Insane upfront hop smell, plenty of dry hopping on the finish for this one.

T/M - Taste upfront hits you with some sweetness and a little bit of hops, amazingly not a lot rye that hits, oh its there, mid range and fading fast. Still an incredible flavor for a single IPA.

O - Would like to have a little bit more Rye flavor for that dry bite that you can get. But still a hard hitter thats hard to believe its only 75IBU's, well, they know how to put them to work!

PP (Price Point) - $6 for a 22oz bomber is well worth it, I am a big fan of Firehouse G&B, well worth it.

This is a recent addition to our local BevMo --- sold in 22 oz bottles. This is a really good beer! It has a nice deep orange color and lots of hoppy aromas including hints of pepper and grapefruit all topped off with a near perfect head. The beer has an excellent balance between the hops and Rye malt which adds a nice spicy taste and fullness to it. At 7.5% ABV it’s not a timid beer, but it goes down very easy and has a smooth aftertaste with makes it easy to consume too quickly. I will add this to my rotation of regular beers.

Thanks to Exiled for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. I get a ton of different hop notes in the aroma. Included are grass, pine and floral notes as well as some candy notes and quite a bit of rye. The flavor is mainly made up of rye with some grass, bread and toffee notes mixed in. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Orange beer, nice start, just about perfect carbonation and off white head to this one. Aroma was good, no rye discernable, but hops, definitely, gotta like the way citra and amarillo play together, they shine here.

More hops in the taste, good job, so many newer breweries substitute high bitterness for hop mouthfeel, you get both here, thank you. This one is borderline dipa territory though, although thankfully this one does not overdo the bitterness, alcohol nor sweetness in the beer in attempts to find 'balance'. Nothing worse than something having 'hop' in the name and failing to taste like hops. You get the faint rye aspect of it, body stays relatively light, hops shine, citrus qualities come out (orange colored fruit - orange, tangerine, nectarine etc. . . ).

At only $5 a bottle, it easily surpasses a lot of brews that charge $6 + for the same size, but don't deliver in terms of quality.

Ken's bottle, thanks for sharing. Nice hops at 75 IBU listed, magnum, citra, and amarillo. Orange citrus taste. Hazy grapefuit body and lots of lace. Soapy 1 inch head. Nice rye flavour that is well integrated with the hops, and not too spicy. Great drinkability .

Poured a finger of tight head on a hazy, dark straw colored body. Looks great.
The aroma is wonderful: big and bright lemon and orange with a background of rye.
The taste has a bold citrus bitterness beginning to end. The spicy rye comes through in the middle really nicely.
The texture is thicker with moderate carbonation.
It's a great IPA with the rye done really well.

Pours a clear bright amber orange with a quick fading white head.

Nose of fresh oranges and pineapple with a light tart character.

Mouthfeel is medium full and nicely balanced and integrated. Tastes rich and "expensive."

Flavors are layered, big, bold and complex. A medium sweet front palate gives way to big nicely burned rye toast and the rye is present in a pleasant assertive rye flavor and character through all parts and layers of this beer. Bitter coffee, bitter toast and bitter burnt oranges.

Rich bitter rye toast gives way to a nice big bitter pine/grapefruit finish. A nice big IPA with really nice big rye flavors and character.

I'm a sucker for rye beers with a lot of rye character such as Bruery Rugbrød and Founders Red's Rye PA. Hops On Rye to me does not dish out all that much rye character, but its influence is blended in perfectly with the over-the-top hop load in this beer. So my review of this beer is really that of an IPA, of which Hops On Rye is an excellent example. In addition to a masterful layering of hop flavors & aromas it delivers an assertively bitter and slightly spicy finish that really adds dimension to this beer. It's not often that I want a second round of the same beer, but this one really does it for me.

Appearance - Poured into a schooner, which probably wasn't the best idea I've ever had. The body is a fairly clear, very deep amber with a nice two finger off-white creamy head. The beer is rather hazy. Very little head retention or lacing.

Smell - LOTS of citrus in the nose. A fair amount of rye malt, with pine notes. I'm even getting hints of honey.

Taste - Not bad!!!! This was like a 4 dollar bomber. I can only assume they are taking a loss to build up customer loyalty. This beer is easily worth 3 times the price. Well balanced between the malt, malt sweetness and hoppiness. Good rye presence. Hint of citrus and pineyness. Borders on being cloying, but still, quite nice..

Mouthfeel - Medium body with nice, tight carbonation. Dry finish. Good stickiness to give you a long, lingering after-taste.

D - Mmmm...beer...aurghghgh...

Appearance: A very pretty clear copper. The head is smooth and creamy, but fairly small and dies down pretty quickly.

Smell: A clean grassy and pineapple hop aroma, followed by a little bit of graininess from the rye.

Taste: The rye character is assertive, but not overwhelming. The rye spiciness mixes quite well with a strong punch of citrusy (and slightly earthy) hops. It's balanced by a lingering caramel sweetness.

Mouthfeel: A slightly syrupy feel helps this beer stick to your palate, making the flavors linger.

Drinkability: Overall a very tasty beer. The rye adds a unique character that sets this beer apart from a lot of other IPAs. Goes down smooth and doesn't disappoint.

Thanks to mlaroche for this on.

No bottle date.

Pours a light amber/orange color, hardly any head, few small bubbles on top, not much lacing either.

Smell has a wonderfully piney hop aroma with a dash of fruity citrus, it isn't harshly hoppy but I also can't pick up much malt in the nose to balance it, I guess it's just appropriately hopped.

Taste starts out with a resiny pine flavor, followed by citrus, aftertaste is a light bitterness cut with some caramel malt, while the rye isn't as heavy as some other beers that feature it, it does add a bit of heaviness to this beer, the soft but active carbonation to this beer is almost spot on and lends some creaminess.

For a beer I just randomly asked for, I'm pleasantly surprised. I'll have to keep my eye out for more from this place.

Chill hazed dark orange colored beer with a medium sized tan colored head. On the dark end of the IPA Orange spectrum.

Smell is strong hops more grapefruit and eucalyptus than pine. Spicy sandalwood smell. Some malt does squeak by the hop load.

Starts out mildly sweet with a strong hop flavor. Tastes a bit savory. Bitter citrus oils on a wooden tongue depressor taste. Slight sour rye taste but honestly this is all about the hops. Not a lot of subtle flavors here, just straight in your face AIPA.

Mouthfeel is good.

Overall a good IPA I would order if I ever saw it on bar tap. Only downside is that it has no subtly to it, just balls to the wall IPA.

Bomber

Appearance - Hazy orange colour with a fairly large size frothy and fizzy beige coloured head. There an average amount of carbonation, and there is some really good lacing on the sides of the glass. The head lasted for 4-5 minutes before it began to dissipate.

Smell - Malts, caramel, hops, oranges, rye

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and the beer has a nice full bodied taste. I can pick up on lots of malts and hops mixed with caramel. There is some orange juice flavour along with some grapefruit zest. At the end I could taste some underlying rye flavours.

Overall – I’m happy I gave this one a try. There aren’t a whole lot of reviews for it, so it must be relatively new to the market. It’s definitely worth checking out if you happen to see it on the shelves.

Paid $4.75 for a bomber from Bobby's Liquor in San Jose, CA. Poured into a large snifter to review. I later found that I had already reviewed this beer as it was on draft at the brewpub. I gave it a B+ prior, so this must have been a better batch as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Half inch off white head consistent of medium sized carbonation bubbles. Not too cloudy and copper orange in color. Excellent lacing and a nice layer of retention.

Certainly a hop forward aroma of dank citrus grapefruit.

Very pleasant taste similar in character to the nose. Alcohol very well hidden. A nice west coast example of an IPA. Clean and refreshing. I don't detect much of the rye presence in either the taste or nose, which for me is a bonus I guess as it's a flavor I'm not particularly too fond of.

Medium body leaning towards the light side. This goes down very quickly. Nice creamy feel with a nice dose of oily hops. Medium length finish of slightly bitter grapefruit hops.

Very impressive, never expected this from my neighborhood brewpub. On top of that, the low price tag makes it even that much better. Cheers !!
