Quality I'm putting as average. The bottle of Trappist Achel Bruin 8 was a skunked/otherwise bad bottle.
Service was nice and made sure to ask if we needed assistance. Always a plus. Of course, like almost always, we did not take up that offer, so we don't know how knowledgeable they are.
Amazing selection including a build your own 6/12/24 pack fridge with ~100 beers, several aisles of 6-sixers, and at least 4 rows (2 aisles) of bombers and singles of the quality stuff.
Guesstimating, I'd say they have somewhere between 400-500 beers. Hard to tell really.
Worth checking out if you're in the area.

A massive size liquor store in south KC. Back portion is dedicated to beer. Had a decent selection of Founders, Boulevard, Firestone Walker, Bells, and Stone. Didn't have too many of the select/limited beers there. My other complaint was that a number of the beers i was interested in purchasing had an older bottled on date than some of the other smaller liquor stores around town.
Overall, lots of quantity with average quality.

Was surprised that this seemed so far south from the center of the city. Oh well, stopped on a Saturday night and selection was broad and good as expected. It had a nice singles area, although as in many places I wish I could have a chance at getting singles of everything. The beers were both refrigerated in the back and kept out to the south end of the store. Glassware was also available. This seems to be the place to stop in KC for a beer haul. $171 I spent despite not really planning to spend much more than $50 coming in.

This store is a little bit of a drive for me but not as far as the one on the Missouri side which is HUGE. This will certainly do for me though. The staff are friendly & they are more than willing to ask you if there is something that they can help you find. They have a "beer" guy & a "wine" guy to help you out w/ any suggestions or product detail. Usually more help than not & I've never had a bad experience going there. Reasonably priced & always get lots of the Boulevard Limited Release Smokestack series! Huge plus in my book. Lots of selection & I even found a few gems that I'll be purchasing soon. Overall, pretty darn good. Especially for Kansas! Prosit.

If i lived closer to this place i would only and i mean "only" go to this place. They have by far the largest selection i have seen in the kansas city area. I know some people are wine lovers but this place respects beer. Once you go the back third of the store you will know what i mean. The whole end of the store is dedicated to the beer and the people who love it. Almost anything you could want cold and ready; as well and three coolers+ of make your own-6. And if you don't find what you need in the coolers they have 4+ aisles of specialty single bottles and imports from other countries. Plus another reason to go the extra mile is that in Missouri they sell FOUNDER'S!!

I have been to KC twice and each time this is my favorite place to visit. It is by far the best beer store I have every visited: If Wal-Mart were simply an alcoholics supermarket, this would be the place!
Each time I go out of town I make a list of things I hope to find when there. The majority of things on my list are here, along with items that I had overlooked and was ecstatic to find.
While there, I am usually asked if I need any help several times and the staff is somewhat knowledgable of beer and beer styles.
I have and will continue to recommend this to anyone and everyone who looks to find a beer store that exceeds every expectation.

My "go to" place for beer in KC. Lukas (135th & State Line) by far has the largest selection of beer in the metro. They have a large selection of unique imports as well as most good domestic micros available to them. They have Bell's :) but no Dogfish Head. :(
I've had quite a few conversations with the guy that runs the beer section and he is very helpful. Best luck going in during the day on weekdays to catch him. I don't think he is around on the weekends.
Prices are reasonable but a little higher than some other stores.
I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I go, which is probably too often. :)

Lukas is certainly one of the de-facto beer stores in the Kansas City area. They also are one of the biggest liquor stores that I have been in. The selection of beer was quite broad but not in they lacked anything truly exotic. I picked up a some Founder's Double Trouble and Centennial IPA as well as Lagunitas' WTF. They had about a 50-50 mix of micro to import ratio if macros are excluded.
Despite the large quantity of micros and imports I really don't think that Lukas' is a "beer" store since beer is not a huge part of their product mix. Once you walk in the store it is laid out pretty much like any other liquor store. Wines and liquor are easily accessible and beer is in the back of the store.
Personal service is not really emphasized at Lukas' either. This is a "Wal-Mart" of liquor stores. If you need assistance it seemed as if you would need to go all the way up to the front and ask a cashier, and I don't know if they have any specialized beer knowledge.
Overall I was able to get in and out with relative ease. I also found beers that suited my tastes for a reasonable price.

I was heading back to Oklahoma after visiting the Boulevard Brewery. It was defiantly worth the stop. It was nice to find beers that are not available to us in Oklahoma. The staff was very polite. I spent probably an hour wondering up and down the aisles finding all kinds of treasures that I have only read about in magazines. Many deals were offered on seasonal and popular beers but I spent most of my money on the odd singles and bomber bottles. The other great thing was to create your own six pack. It gave me an opportunity to try several more common beers that I haven't had but didn't want to spend the money on a whole six pack in case I didn't like them. I will go out of my way to stop again if I'm ever in the area.
