I've been to about every other beer store listed in Beerfly and I finally went to Lukas. Damn it is far south! But I am glad I went the extra way.
Massive store with loads of wine and spirits... seems to have a tasting room too. I am only interested in beer! I located the coolers on the back wall and made my way too them. I seen, domestically speaking, everything I was planning on. Bell's being the star, IMO. When I seen the 5L mini-kegs of Two Hearted I bought two. Hell, for $20 how could I say no?!
A small hanging sign in the middle of the store directed to the imported beers... lots of Belgians, heavy on B. United imports. I did see some rare beers and plenty of quality overall.
The amount of beer on the warm shelves alone is impressive. I could have bought plenty of beer here but I limited myself greatly. I thought the prices were quite good.
I didn't bother looking in the mixed six area as I wasn't in the mood to load up on singles of beer just try for the sake of trying them.
I did find it odd that in a store so big, on a Friday night, there was no employees in the store helping people.
On my next trip to KC I will probably stop here again but I need to pay Royal another visit too.
It would seem the reputation of Lukas is well deserved and worth paying a visit.

A massive size liquor store in south KC. Back portion is dedicated to beer. Had a decent selection of Founders, Boulevard, Firestone Walker, Bells, and Stone. Didn't have too many of the select/limited beers there. My other complaint was that a number of the beers i was interested in purchasing had an older bottled on date than some of the other smaller liquor stores around town.
Overall, lots of quantity with average quality.

Was surprised that this seemed so far south from the center of the city. Oh well, stopped on a Saturday night and selection was broad and good as expected. It had a nice singles area, although as in many places I wish I could have a chance at getting singles of everything. The beers were both refrigerated in the back and kept out to the south end of the store. Glassware was also available. This seems to be the place to stop in KC for a beer haul. $171 I spent despite not really planning to spend much more than $50 coming in.

Quality I'm putting as average. The bottle of Trappist Achel Bruin 8 was a skunked/otherwise bad bottle.
Service was nice and made sure to ask if we needed assistance. Always a plus. Of course, like almost always, we did not take up that offer, so we don't know how knowledgeable they are.
Amazing selection including a build your own 6/12/24 pack fridge with ~100 beers, several aisles of 6-sixers, and at least 4 rows (2 aisles) of bombers and singles of the quality stuff.
Guesstimating, I'd say they have somewhere between 400-500 beers. Hard to tell really.
Worth checking out if you're in the area.

This store is a little bit of a drive for me but not as far as the one on the Missouri side which is HUGE. This will certainly do for me though. The staff are friendly & they are more than willing to ask you if there is something that they can help you find. They have a "beer" guy & a "wine" guy to help you out w/ any suggestions or product detail. Usually more help than not & I've never had a bad experience going there. Reasonably priced & always get lots of the Boulevard Limited Release Smokestack series! Huge plus in my book. Lots of selection & I even found a few gems that I'll be purchasing soon. Overall, pretty darn good. Especially for Kansas! Prosit.

If i lived closer to this place i would only and i mean "only" go to this place. They have by far the largest selection i have seen in the kansas city area. I know some people are wine lovers but this place respects beer. Once you go the back third of the store you will know what i mean. The whole end of the store is dedicated to the beer and the people who love it. Almost anything you could want cold and ready; as well and three coolers+ of make your own-6. And if you don't find what you need in the coolers they have 4+ aisles of specialty single bottles and imports from other countries. Plus another reason to go the extra mile is that in Missouri they sell FOUNDER'S!!
