Innovative burgers, whiskey, Three Floyds beer (along with other craft beers on tap)...what more can a person want? If you can look past the heavy metal music and the "grungy" look to the place, you'll find quite possibly THEE #1 place for burgers in Chicago. Whether you're here at the original location or at their new location near the Lake, their burgers are a must try each time you go.

Beer and metal = a match made in hell! and there's no better union than those two. Awesome beer selection. Monthly offerings from FFF are available but go quickly. The burgers are world class. The place is always packed. When you're throwing down a brew and you see the dude that's cooking your burger head banging and grilling at the same time, you know you're in a good place. Bring a friend, the appetizers are great, the burgers are huge and the brew is plentiful. You won't leave hungry, sober, or ready to go to the library cause your ears will be ringing from the awesome tunes you've just been jamming too.

I’ll admit - I avoided Kumas for a long time. I hate lines. I had also heard bad things from others, and for some reason I listened to it instead of listening to my gut. After all - my boyfriend and I have a track record of taming some of the surliest bartenders (cough ** Toronado). Anyhow. Our friends were in town and had heard a lot about Kumas. We went expecting to wait a long time, but, realistically, the wait was about a 45 minutes on a Saturday afternoon and we got drinks from the bar during the wait. The draft list is small but well thought out. The bottle list is great. The burgers are incredible. The service is stupendous. Absolutely nice people. (Don’t believe the music and - not kidding - the Shining playing on the TV). Lovely people (ha, they probably cringed at that word). Great bar. If you haven’t been here, GO. But go on a weekday afternoon. The negatives of this place are summed up in our experience with a man who ran up to the hostess after our party of 6 was sat. He was insisting that he and his 5 year old son were there before us. Whether he was right or wrong, we were sat at a 6 top, and he only had a party of 2. F*** that guy for not only yelling at a really nice hostess but also yelling at other customers. However, when a place is this famous, crap like this happens. Go when it’s not busy so you can enjoy it. You ratebeerians probably know better, though.

This is my go-to place for beer and beef.

The on-tap selection is solid but the bottle list is outstanding.

Waiting for a table usually takes an hour but bar seats open up fairly quickly if you come alone.

The food is prepared with so much love and consistency and the portions will not leave you hungry.

Heavy metal pours out of the grease-laden speakers so conversations are usually drowned out- thankfully.

Watch the kitchen in action. They are amazing.

*From my Yelp profile*

That was the best burger that I have ever eaten.

Since I know almost nobody will read my entire review, I thought I'd be generous and put the "Too long, didn't read" at the top, rather than the bottom. For those with an attention span better than that of a squirrel, READ ON!

I came here on a Sunday at about 11:20, knowing that they opened at 12. As it turned out, I got here at just about the right time. There were already about ten people in line. I read that there are insane wait times for Kuma's Corner, so I wanted to beat the rush. At about 11:45, Kuma's decided to let people in. I got sat in the back (See pictures I added), and ordered a beer. For those wondering, I went with a Dreadnaught by Three Floyds, which ran $10 a pint -- about the price I was expecting, given the quality of the beer and the ABV.

Within a few minutes, I got my order taken and decided to have the Plague Bringer. Being a huge fan of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives", I wanted to get the Black Sabbath burger, but I felt compelled to get something that seemed "new" to me. The Plague Bringer, having roasted garlic mayo, crushed garlic, housemade hot sauce, jalapenos, tortilla strips, lettuce, tomato, and onion, did that for me. I should also note that I decided to get the burger medium rare, even though I normally get my meat cooked medium.

For the love of God. Half of the 9.5% ABV pint of Dreadnaught may have had an effect on my opinion of the burger, but I was far from drunk -- I've had plenty of intoximeals where the food wasn't anywhere near as good as this.

The Plague Bringer basically blew me away. First of all, it's monstrous. I took some pics, but it doesn't do it justice at all. With the bun on, the 10oz burger with all of the toppings has to be nearly five inches tall. You'd better have a wide mouth, otherwise you'll just have to eat this with a knife and fork (wimp...). Everything about the Plague Bringer makes me crave it right now. Obviously, the perfectly cooked, juicy burger makes me want to dive in, but the spice from the jalapenos and fantastic house-made hot sauce. The crunch and flavor of the tortilla strips that somehow stay perfectly crispy with all of the juices from the burger... I can't get over it.

My friend went and got the Black Sabbath burger, to which he simply said was "Good." He wasn't nearly as impressed with his burger ... I assume that's a combination of being completely sober and his burger choice. I have no doubts in my mind that even if I hadn't had any beer whatsoever (wasn't much to begin with), that I'd be just as in love with the Plague Bringer.

For $13, you actually get an impressive value. The 10oz burger is slightly bigger than the normal half pounder, and obviously almost twice that of a 6oz burger. If that's not enough for you, you get a generous portion of fries. The fries aren't anything to write home about, but if you couldn't already tell, THE DAMN PLAGUE BRINGER IS!

Absolutely, 100%, no doubt, I'll be back to Kuma's (Not KUMAR'S... why are some people calling it Kumar's!?) when I'm in Chicago... and I'll *try* to get something different. I can't make any promises though...

For those that skipped to the bottom of this review and didn't read the top...

Big Deal...you make a big burger.

The burgers are 10oz. and have interesting sounding toppings. They are $13-16 each.

They have about 10-12 taps with some Lagunitas and 3 Floyds selections which is nice.

They play metal music and their burgers are named after metal rock bands.

My burger was over cooked and dried out. The fries were OK.

I definitely would never go back again.

This was an interesting place to say the least. Very dark with the overall feel of a run down biker bar (I think that is their goal). Showed up later in the evening on a hot night and could barely stand sitting inside due to the lack of A/C, despite the giant industrial fan that they had. I actually had to leave and sit outside for a few minutes while my friends ate their burgers.

The beer selection was very good, with rotating taps from FFF and Half Acre among the taps.

I didn't eat, but the burgers looked fantastic. As long as it isn't a hot night, I will give this place a another try next time I am in Chicago.

Amazing burgers! Heavy metal, plenty of ink, great service, and craft brews. They don't even allow the big name beer companies in here. Bring your appetite because all burgers are 10 ounce patties. In addition to the amazing craft beers both bottled and on tap, they have 3 whiskeys on tap. This place is serious. You can't go wrong coming here.

Best burgers in the world, probably. Great, if not top-notch beer selection too. Really nice waitstaff and bartenders. Has gotten a little too well known for its own good the last few years, but as long as you ignore the posers, you'll have a great time. The only reason this place doesn't get all fives is because it's always crowded. It takes a bit longer than the usual burger joint trip, but if you're like me and enjoy the music, then it's absolutely fantastic.

Out of hand burgers and good craft beer selection. This place is not for people who hate to wait and hate heavy music. During peak times, you can see the line go around the block. Get yourself the Mastodon burger and head bang to the blasting metal music.
