So in between 2 errands, i had time to check out this beer store. Since i moved off the island, this is the closest specialty beer store (15 min.) from my place. This store is close upon entering Chateauguay from the Mercier Bridge (5 min.).
As i enter the store, i notice right away that it's not the most organized store. It's like a cross between a convience store and a produce store. The cash register kind of sits in the middle of both. There's a large lobster tank and near the back there's a meat counter also. I didn't check out the produce section though. Now, on to the beer!
There are about 5 or 6 beer fridges all staggered along the way to the back. At first, i see (of course) Molson/Labatt/etc..., then La Barberie & Grimoire. Moving on, Unibroue, 3 Mousquetaires and McAuslan. Thinking that's it, i was a little disappointed. But like i said, the beer fridges keep going and then i saw more like L'Alchimiste and DDC. The only thing was that while a lot of breweries were represented, they didn't necessarily have all their offerings. Charlevoix is supposed to be there but i didn't see it. I'll have to look into it when i go back. No Bieropholie though :(
The store is a bit eccentric with a little bit of everything in ways of food. There's also some limited glassware at the cash. The layout is done a bit haphazardly but you find everything you need.
Service was nice and seemed knowledgable. One thing i noticed was that beers from the same brewer are not always together. So, if you see some beers from a brewer but not others, don't dispair, keep looking till the end. I ended up getting some Blanche de Chambly, Trois Pistoles and the Blanche & Blonde from 3 Mousquetaires.
There's also in the same strip mall an SAQ and also a fish n' chips take-out counter next to the beer store. Unfortunately i was pressed for time so i didn't get some but i'll rectify that in the future.
Though it doesn't compare with the stores in Montreal, it's an acceptable substitution in lieu of high gas prices. Happy to have a specialty beer store close to where i live and will visit again in the future.
