On tap at the Square One Brewery in St. Louis.
A - Pours nice golden orange color with a 1 in white head and nice sticky lacing.
S - Citrusy and sweet grapefruit with nice flowery and piney hops. Some nice caramel and sweet honey scents as well.
T - First you get a nice sweet candy flavor that is quickly offset by a nice citrusy and piney hop character that isn't too intense but is good enough to let you know its there. Nice balance between the malt and the hops even for a IIPA. Its more of a medium-light bodied beer with nice complexity in the notes but not as oily as some other IIPA's.
D - Very high, lower ABV and not too intense hop character.

Served on-tap at the Square One Brewery, St. Louis
A: Tasty-looking haze of rich orange topped by a sticky head of stark white foam.
S: Citrus and pine mostly, but it also hinted toward the warming alcohol to come.
T & M: Honestly, I expected the hops to hit me in the face and leave me looking like a Salvador Dali painting. But they didn't - now that's not a bad thing because it had just enough piney, floral and citrus hoppiness to satisfy the style. On the malt side, I think it was fairly well balanced for the amount of upfront hops but definitely nowhere as malty as say Dogfish Head's 90 Minute IIPA. The body of the beer wasn't as dense as I would have liked but compensated by being so sticky and unavoidably bitter. The finish left loads of hops and warming alcohol on my tongue (and who doesn't like that?).
D: I would put this one in the lighter side of the IIPA style, just because it's a bit less dense. On the other hand, because it's less dense, one could feasibly drink more.
Overall, I think you'll like this brew if you're looking for a good, bitter beer with a medium, viscous body that warms and keeps the hops from start to finish.

This is a very tasty beer. It is aggressively bittered with a hop combo that I would have guessed to be about the same hops as the previous reviewer speculated. I asked the owner, though, and he indicated that the hop adds were Summit, Challenger, and Goldings. In any event, there is a blend of citrus, pine, and floral flavors which are balanced toward the citrus.
The beer pours a pretty, cloudy orange with a large head that leaves lots of step-lacing on the glass. Aroma is mostly citrus.
Now, here is my problem .. while quite flavorful and hoppy, this beer doesnt have the malt backbone, mouthfeel, and alcohol bite of an American IIPA. The texture is nearly that of a cask beer (and theres nothing wrong with that!), there is little malt balance, and no perceptible alcohol whatsoever. So, had Square One classified this an IPA, rather than an IIPA, I would be heaping on scores of 4.5 and high praise.
Honestly, I wish there were more beers out there that provide this much flavor and drinkability without smacking you with booze. They are quite hard to find, in my opinion. But this beer should be compared to other IIPAs, and for malt presence, and a nice, reasonable alcohol bite, it really isnt in that class. There again, it isn't in that price class, either.

This beer poured extremely hazy, and was topped by a thick, chunky white head. The head left a massive lace on the side of the glass as it receded. The nose is a citrus hop bomb. I;m not exceptionally good at identifying hops, but this seems to have some Centennial, Simcoe, and a touch of Amarillo. This gives it a heavy citrus character, some mandarin from the simcoe, but there is an herbal, floral character too. There is a nice malt backbone to the aroma. The flavor has more of the citrus sweetness. Really a ton of sweet orange character, a little floral hop, and a ton of malt sweetness on the finish. The mouth feel is slightly slick, and very smooth. Really a nice effort from this brewery.
