Before there was Stout, there was Porter, the world’s first mass-produced beer. Our version is robust in character with a well balanced, toasted rich malt character and spicy hop bitterness. In the aroma and finish is just a hint of sweet smokiness.

Poured into an imperial pint glass form a growler filled on 1-21-2011.
A - Pours deep and black with some slight viscosity to it no too much though. There is a nice 1 inch light tan head that forms after a vigorous pour.
S - Smoke and more smoke. Some grilled meat aroma. Slight beef jerky notes.
T & M - Taste starts off with good smoke notes. Almost like a Rauchbier in the smoke aspect. There is also a nice roasted malt and more traditional American Porter undertone to it with some slight bitter chocolate as well as some caramel. Then again most of these flavors are overwhlemed by the smoke. Don't get me wrong its a good brew just not as traditional in flavors as say a founders Porter. The mouthfeel is where Im kind off let down. It is slightly watery. Could be a bit more robust and oily.
D - Good brew that I could have more of whenever I go to Square One except for the fact that they always have better stuff on tap like their Pale Ale or their IPA.

Pure black brew, no light passes thru this one - thick and rich tan head leaving a lace ring with each quaff. A good start to a brew that did not disappoint me.
Standard American porter aspects with the raspy woody resin leading the way into smoke land - albeit just a light smoked peat moss touch. Rich, full bodied - easy to sip for one or three.
Another tasty brew from Augusta/Square One.
