Named for the famed cotton gin inventor who ran an arms factory on the other end of town. Visited here many times when I lived in town for several years. Casual place, but clean and well-kept with good food and attentive service. Bar area is large with multiple televisions, lots of high pub tables.

As far as beer selection goes, it's the usual micro suspects and not much more. Click on their website link above, and the draft and bottle list can be found after clicking on menus and beverage. The best micros are a few Magic Hats, Otter Creek, and Harpoon. In bottles you'll find Anchor Steam and Sam Smith. You won't come here to be enlightened with new and exciting craft beers.

This is not a beer bar or beer destination. This is a restaurant where you can get a decent beer with your meal.

The quintessential Hamden establishment. Decent place all around, tap list is ok and will occasionally feature some craft, though it's usually from the bigger companies. Food is average pub grub. Service has always been on-point, though, and it's a big reason they're still in business. Nice family restaurant and easy to grab a drink or two, but if you're already in Hamden it's better to drive down the road to MiKro.

Nice looking place with many a TV. The service was laughably bad. Almost wlaked out twice--no waitress at the table for 10 mins after seating and the first (only beer) took about 15 mins. The crab cakes my wife ordered were inedible (cold and an eggshell found), my santa cruz chicken sandwich were pretty good and I liked the fries and bread. I had to request the bread after I noticed other tables getting them immediately after sitting. Highly unlikely to ever return.

Pretty decent draught selection and good food. This place is always busy, especially on hockey nights.

Stopped in for Monday Night Football as they had a decent deal on wings and the others I was with wanted the $2 draft bud-lights. I however got a look at their craft menu and ordered from there. The craft menu was decent, with 3 winter ales on tap (Sam Adams, Redhook, and Bluepoint). I saw they had Hoffbrau, but when the waitress came around, her cheat sheet she carried around it was spelled Hofbrow (I spose it was phoenetically spelled in her case). They had some SN Pale Ale along with some Magic Hat #9 and then the rest of the stuff on tap was Macro stuff. The service was actually really good. As soon as I was nearing the end of one beer, our waitress was back to bring another round. The food was pretty good. Their wings are pretty decent and their mashed potato pizza is amazing! Nice dessert menu as well though I didn't order from it. Since it was MNF it was a pretty decent deal and the service was good. Not a bad place, decent TV setup too. I just thought they needed more craft on tap.

When visiting friends at Quinnipac University stopped in here. Food was pretty good as well as the atmosphere, large bar "u" shaped bar with many stools and flat screens above the bar. Had a dj there so the music was pretty spotty and all over the place.

As far as beer went the usual suspects on tap had sam, sam summer, blue moon, #9, and Stella. Not much else to choose from in bottles. So if your looking for a beer bar dont go but if you want to catch a buzz and see college girls stop in

Eli's on Whitney located right near the town hall in wonderful Hamden, CT. Growing up in Hamden, my family use to go here a lot. Loved the Steak and Cheeses they had. Hadn't been back since, until this past weekend when I was home for Christmas.

Not that I was suprised, but I knew a waitress and a bartender--guess some people never leave...Service was pretty good, not exceptional, but above average. This rating may be skewed however, since I knew some of the staff.

The night I was there, Dec. 23, it was pretty packed, but I attribute that to a lot of people being home for the holiday break. I know for a fact that this place does get packed on the weekends, especially with Quinnipiac College students. Supposedly they have music, but only a DJ when I was there and the "stage" is so small, I can't imagine it's a good place for music.

Long rectangle bar with taps on each end. LOTS of seating at the bar. Also a bunch of tables in the "bar area". There is also a restaurant area too. All mahogany or dark wood, low lighting, and a few TV's for watching games. Pictures of Eli Whitney and Olde town Hamden adorn the walls. Food prices are reasonable considering this is a "semi upscale" restaurant in Hamden.

On tap when I was there: Long Trail, Harpoon, Ottercreek, Stella, Sierra, Magic Hat, Sam. They also had Sam Smith and Anchor Steam in bottles. The selection is one of the best for a bar in this town and the quality was pretty good. They had to change the Long Trail tap when I was getting one, ordered an Otter Creek instead...

From what I remember, the food was pretty good, however, the place has had a face lift since the last time I ate there, so my opinion of the food is invalid.
