A carefullly crafted beer, hopped with a true stout uppermost in our brewers mind. Mellow yet with a "Bite" that will only be fully appreciated on your second bottle!

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2011. The label mentions that this is an award winning ale crafted in the manner of a stout.

Poured into a Guinness pint glass. A dark ruby hue; it looks black until held to the light. Decent carbonation is just visible, and it produces a thick creamy head of pale brown foam that lasts for several minutes. A rich aroma: sweet roasted malt accompanied by notes of coffee, chocolate, grain and dried fruit.

Tastes of sweet roasted malt with a well-balanced dry finish. Faint burnt notes in addition to coffee, chocolate and dark dried fruit. Mild dry bitterness upon swallowing, although no hoppy notes are descernible. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy but a little thin. Leaves a dry aftertaste of roasted malt and fruit.

A damn good ale - smooth and flavoursome. The taste is impressive for such a low ABV. The only let down is the body, which could be slightly more substantial. Balanced and easy to drink - well worth your time if you come across it.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a dark red/brown colour with a small head.

Smells roasty and burnt.

Tastes of very burnt malts, coffee in a very stout like way. Though it is also fairly watery and drinkable.

A very quaffable brew.

Tasted by a half-pint at the GBBF 2008, served by a non-sparkler hand-pull.

A: dark brown in colour with reddish hues when seen against light, coming with a very creamy khaki froth with superb retention, on top of light carbonation.
S: light dusty hints from the foam precedes a deeper aroma of roasty malts, sweet caramel, toffee, with a whiff of chocolates. Balanced, light, malty, with a decent body overall.
T: light-bodied sour-sweet roasty malty entry leads towards dark fruits, plums, chewy roasty finish... a tad dry in the end, also scattered with signs of hop aroma.
M&D: fresh on the palate, but going slightly thin in the end (not too surprising for a Dark Mild). A nice, easy-drinking malty brew that could be improved by a better depth from more input of hops.
