enjoyed at the southampton IRS release and again later had some leftovers in a capt lawrence tulip at home.
a - brew is a watery black as expected for a barrel aged brew as expected.
s - nose is super different from the non barrel aged. the rum comes through in a big way adding a really nice element of fruitiness over the top. it really takes the base to the next level.
t/m - much like the nose, the flavor is boosted through the moon with the barrel aging. an otherwise solid, but run of the mill impy stout is upped to awesome status with the fruity booziness of the barrel. the fruit overtakes the roast and puts it to the backseat making this super palateable and drinkable.
o - overall, this is a big winner. captain lawrence has struggled with their barrel aged non sours and it is nice to see one come out fantastically. worth seeking out and picking up. i would do it sooner than later though as i find barrel characteristics to fade over time and right now the barrel is in the front seat and doing wonders for the base beer. cheers and great beer!

This was a disappointing beer. If I was just rating this, I'd give it a 3.75 at best. I think when I actually examine each category, I want to go down even a step lower. Basically bland in both aroma and taste. No interesting qualities to speak of. Such a flashy, colorful label and wax dipping. Sold out in a few hours at the brewery. This beer does not live up to the hype.
