Pours a slightly cloudy, bright golden orange color with a one finger, frothy white head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention with large streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Visible carbonation bubbling up.

Earthy hop aroma with grassy pine notes and dank, resinous oils countered by light tropical/citrus fruits and a pale malt backbone. Hints of fresh cut grass, pine needle, fresh buds and spruce tip countered by sweet grapefruit and pineapple. There's a little bit of orange and lemon peel in there as well but the fruit presence isn't overbearing. The malt backbone really comes through in the aroma but doesn't hinder the juicy hop presence giving off notes of bread, biscuit and cracker for balance. Nothing really stands out in the nose but the aroma is inviting.

On the fuller end of medium body with a blast of dry, sticky bitterness that lingers over the sweeter notes, pale malt and strong alcohol flavor into a dry finish. The hop profile lacks the balance found in the aroma with almost overwhelming bitterness and oily resins. Very dry and sticky with lots of earthy soil, grass and pine needle flavor. Very subtle tropical/citrus fruit with faint hints of orange peel, grapefruit and pineapple. Still, there is plenty of sweetness provided from the overwhelmingly harsh, boozy finish. Tons of alcohol heat and ethanol flavor killing off most of the interesting hop characteristics. It doesn't really burn going down but the finish is all boozy sweetness, almost completely overshadowing everything interesting that came before it. Not a bad beer but it's severely lacking in balance. Even without the strong alcohol presence in the finish, the sweeter fruit notes are overpowered by the strong bitterness and earthy resins. A rare miss from one of my favorite breweries.

12 ounce bottle w/o freshness info purchased at the brewery a few days ago.

Pours hazed, dull near golden amber. Off white frothy and long lasting head. Leaves a thicker film, thick collar and more then ample high and fine sheeting and scattered lacing.

Nose is brightly of grapefruit.

On the palate its more and more grapefruit, biting lime, soaked in gin alcohol notes. Big and brash, fresh and flavorful. Hop lovers, extreme/big beer lovers rejoice. World class DIPA

Well done Captain!

Slightly hazed apricot and honey colored with a bright white head of rocky, bumpy froth that lingers long, and leaves broad sheets of lace up the insides of the glass as I drink. Aroma of tangerine and turbinado sugar, subtle pine and ripe fruit, notes of honey.

Rich and intense flavor of tingly hops, lots of citrus and orange rind. Boozy, some nearly cloying sweetness, ripe fruit, ABV tingles the tongue. Full mouthfeel, but a bit slick. This one is tasty, but seems a bit out of balance.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a mostly clear golden amber with a decent white head on top. Not very much visible carbonation in the body. Leaves some good lacing as the head dissipates.

S: Quality aroma on this one, starts off with a big hop bang with a sweet almost maple syrup like malt backend. Hops add a nice citrus and earthy aroma.

T: Nice profile here. A good deal of bitterness but it doesn't overwhelm. Hops are a very solid blend with citrus and herbal qualities collaborating in harmony. Malts add a sweetness to the background that doesnt detract from the hop.

M: Very drinkable considering the ABV. Medium body that has a dry finish. A touch sticky from all the hop resins but not too bad.

Overall I'm really diggin this beer. Has a solid hop offering and a pleasant malt backbone. Worth trying out for any hophead.

Pours a hazy color, with a small amount of an orange hue. The head started white and foamy but disappeared very quickly.

The nose demonstrated the pungency of various hops, seems like the Citra always outshines the others. This one had more than your fresh young high hopped IPA.
There was the typical grapefruit citrus bouquet, but I also picked up some malt sweetness

The first sip was BIG and BOLD with a fair amount of carbonation. Very dry consistent with so many 90+ IBU beers. What I like was that there was always hops going around. Hitting all parts of my tongue displaying various attributes. The pine, the lemon, honeydew.. All coming at the same time.

The alcohol seemed to be up front, but with the aftertaste, I was left with that clean dry bitterness.

Enjoyable, hard to put an exact finger on it, different bold and good

12oz bottle into a Cigar City snifter.

Pours a 1 finger rich, creamy light-colored head with good retention. Beer is a clear orange. Lacing is thick and layered with excellent stick. A really nice looking beer.

Nose is citrus, pine, and floral hop bitterness. Some cane sugar and a light lactose tie things together. Aromatic. Pretty good.

Opens citrus, pine, papaya and manga hop bitterness. A huge cane sugar and cream background emerge quickly in the middle supported by a hefty dose is booziness. More citrus and a resin hop bitterness round things out. Finishes fruity and sweet with a rich, sweet aftertaste. Nice complexity and flavor but a bit too heavy.

Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and boozy, dense and aggressive going down. Messy finish with a long, lingering, hot aftertaste. A bit over-the-top.

I like my IPAs to be flavorful... which this is. But I also want them to be drinkable... which this most certainly is not. In a style that consistently puts out huge beers, this is one of the biggest... which isn't a good thing here. Worth trying as the flavor is there, but I'd pass after one.

This pours about as perfectly as a beer can pour. Huge white head that takes forever to fade. Bits of clumpy lace here and there and a thick covering that stays even as it very slowly thins out. Nose is lovely. Sweet notes of caramel malt and dinner rolls mixed with a perfumey, honey tinged alcohol. Heavy doses of pine tame the big malt base and make each sniff a walk in a Northwest pine forest. Taste hits with equal parts light sweet caramel and doughy bread, fusel alcohol, and piney hops that turned citrusy. Large amounts of tropical fruits flow underneath with pineapple, papaya, and mango prominent. Finish is firmly hopped with a long oily swallow and an astringent drying followed by a touch of alcohol heat flowing back to hop oil lingering and bringing bits of bread crusts and pineapple buttered rolls. Feel is surprisingly light and gently creamy, with a touch of light syrup. Astonishingly drinkable at this abv as the huge but sophisticated hop component subsumes the alcohol and creates a quenching quality that just keeps you sipping. Just a great example of extreme brewing made quaffable. LOVE IT!
