I picked this up at Oliver's in NY, poured chilled in a tulip. Share with tenderbranson69.

The color is a golden lightly hazed amber with thin white head and fine bead. The clarity and retention are good with lace streaks left on the glass. The aroma has some strong tropical hop notes yet there is a lot of floral odors and moderate alcohol esters with yeast adding fruitiness to the nose. The feel is very good with moderately light body for the strength and high bitterness that gradual increases in the finish. There is subtle sweetness and light astringency with mild alcohol warmth with medium high carbonation and semi-dry warming finish.

The taste has very faint malt up front mixed with tangy tropical and mildly grapefruit flavors form the hops with mango and light citrus zest with some malt sweetness in the middle and malt foundation carries through with alcohol noticeable in the taste and slightly spicy aspect in the finish which has more bitterness as the ale warms with yeast adding slight fruity taste and alcohol warmth in the finish. Outstanding strong IPA in the sense it is pretty tasty hop wise and the alcohol is gradual and not that prominent in the taste for the 11% abv.

Easily the Double IPA of the year around these parts. I love Heady Topper, as well as Ghandi Bot, Dirt Wolf, High Res, regular Resin for that matter, but this entry by Captain Lawrence is different, in a good way. Great mouthfeel, a complex malt profile that drags a nice hop parade along with it.

This IPA is is what beer would be if a brewer fermented a batch of malt, mangos and pineapples at 10.2 ABV, and said, "here, knock your socks off", and it does. I've had it on tap, and from the bottle. Thankfully there is no difference.

The beer of the year on the east coast. The 89 rating seems protective of the beer world. Though a decent score, 89 is below what the beer really deserves. For 11.99/4, get it, and get it again. Awesome .

This pours about as perfectly as a beer can pour. Huge white head that takes forever to fade. Bits of clumpy lace here and there and a thick covering that stays even as it very slowly thins out. Nose is lovely. Sweet notes of caramel malt and dinner rolls mixed with a perfumey, honey tinged alcohol. Heavy doses of pine tame the big malt base and make each sniff a walk in a Northwest pine forest. Taste hits with equal parts light sweet caramel and doughy bread, fusel alcohol, and piney hops that turned citrusy. Large amounts of tropical fruits flow underneath with pineapple, papaya, and mango prominent. Finish is firmly hopped with a long oily swallow and an astringent drying followed by a touch of alcohol heat flowing back to hop oil lingering and bringing bits of bread crusts and pineapple buttered rolls. Feel is surprisingly light and gently creamy, with a touch of light syrup. Astonishingly drinkable at this abv as the huge but sophisticated hop component subsumes the alcohol and creates a quenching quality that just keeps you sipping. Just a great example of extreme brewing made quaffable. LOVE IT!

A - light orange color, mostly opaque, a healthy 1-inch head with good streaking.

S - herby, piney, aromatic, just a touch of sweet, citrus.

T - the driest high ABV Imperial IPA I've tasted. Piney, herby, a nice bitterness. Unlike others, I found the alcohol very well hidden.

M - I've grown fond of the gooeyness of Imperial IPAs, but this one doesn't have it. Mouthfeel lacks that. However, there is a lot of carbonation in this beer, which is nice.

O - A good drinking Imperial IPA. Captain Lawrence doesn't put the ABV on its labels, it says 10.3 on BA, 11.0 on beermenus. In my analysis, Seeking Alpha is just a single-digit ABV, maybe as low as 8 or 9.
