On tap at Brickwall Tavern, Asbury Park, NJ

Bright orange color, but opaque with haze, and a small white head that faded to a thin ring, leaving trace amounts of lacing on the glass. Aroma was primarily fruity, somewhat hoppy, but mostly fruity. In the taste, again, lots of juicy fruit, citrus, tropical, stone, with a sugary sweetness overwhelming any hop bitterness; solid bready malt base, with a touch of fusel booze. I have to believe that the tap line was contaminated on this one...it almost tasted like a full-blown fruit beer as opposed to an IPA. So I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt with a relatively conservative rating. Mouthfeel was slick, body medium, carbonation average. Decent overall, but I kind of want to try it again, just to see if it was indeed contaminated.

Purchased a single bottle in a mixed six in New Jersey on my recent trip south. Although NY state is next door, we do not get Captain Lawrence in Mass.

No visible "born on" date. Hot label graphic of flaming hops.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Tree House tulip pint.

a: Hazy orange with a finger thick offwhite head which receded to rocky surface foam and dense lacing.

s: Pretty intense citrus, leaning to tangerine. Yummy. Later a grassy aroma emerges.

t: Strong citrus and pine hops forward over a thick bready malt base. Bitterness penetrates the back sides of the tongue and mouth. Bready malt and resiny bitterness linger. Some throat burn builds from the high ABV, but otherwise the alcohol is well covered.

m; Medium to full, chewy, loads of carbonation tingle.

o: DIPAs and TIPAs can get cloyingly bitter. This approaches that, but does not annoy. Instead the clingy lacing, amazing body and wake-up hop bite add up to a very enjoyable, substantial yet refreshing brew. I would definitely buy this again the next time I am in a state which gets it. Hopefully then too there will be bottling info so I know how fresh it is.
