Just filled a growler at the brewery and cracked within the hour.
Pours a dark amber with cedar tanin red. Thick foamy tan 4 finger head reduces to about 1/2 finger that stays with the drink. nice thick lacing with heavy ring.
Smells of a rustic orange sweetness with maple syrupy malts and a peppery spice edge. Some candy belgian like yeast happening with nicely balanced farmhouse grain.
Nice peppery/coriander spice up front with a candied grain that partly offsets the dominant peppery spice. Citrisy bitter mid palate with a grilled orange reduction like flavor that kind of drys on the tongue. A tad of unfermented Belgian yeast on the finish.
High carbonation but not bothersome, delivers the orange bitter nicely.
Nicely done Saison with a roasted orange element that adds an almost woody character similar to a Reposada tequila or rustic orange liqueur.

Pilot Batch #102 (!)
" A citrus saison with fruity flavor and aroma aged on six pounds of orange peel. Brewed for (the) "craft" documentary"
1/2 growler filled at the brewery a few hours ago.
Pours clouded darker amber with an auburn hue. Darker khaki head that stays nicely, leaves a frothy film and decent thicker ringed lace.
Fruity nose with some pepper and ginger.
I get some smoky oranges and plenty more ginger on the palate. Then in the finish some Belgian yeast characteristics, peppery, nutty and flavorful. Nicely done. Quite enjoyable stuff, went well with a few steak tacos.
