Amazing light beer - served 9oz at Victorie in Rochester, NY. Great mouthfeel and can't say enough about how beautiful the head is in the sunlight - the attention to detail with the apple subtleties is striking in a good way. I loved this beer - please try it if you can find a good tap!

On tap at the Blue Monk. A lighter Belgian ale. Pours deep yellow to golden colour with a minimum head. Carbonation bubbles. Yeast is the characteristic, as it warms I can distinguish a tad of funk, spiciness featuring clove. True to style, but Something needed to distinguish itself in this style?

Clear pale golden with no head. The nose is pure bubblegum with a hint of hops and artificial smelling fruity esters. The taste has a honey sweetness and of course bubblegum, some white grape. This is a beer that definitely improves as it warms. The mouthfeel is light bodied and drinkable, slightly bitter with a honey sweetness. This beer was a bit of a disappointment and drinks like a strangely flavored lager.

First had: on tap at Captain Lawrence, Elmsford, NY

Actually quite an excellent crack at a Belgian-style ale. Poured a clearish golden-yellow color with a small wispy white head that receded to a ringlet, leaving a few wayward streaks of lacing on the glass. Smell was loaded with Belgian goodness, yeasty, spicy, floral. Taste is simliar, bready, yeasty, notes of banana and stone fruit, peppery spice, floral hops, sweet honeyish malts...lots of flavor here. About medium in body, smooth, well-balanced, well-flavored, quite drinkable.

Had this on-tap in a pint glass at Bridge View Tavern in Sleepy Hollow.

Appearance: light golden hue with a strong effervescence and a light haze. Head is a thin layer of white foam.

Smell: nice funky, lightly spicy aroma with a distinct saison quality. Smooth, clean and enticing.

Taste: sweet malt with a light saison-style funk. There's a floral quality here and a light chalkiness. I like it.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a good carbonation and creaminess. I like it.

Overall: an interesting Belgian style ale. I find it is more like a French saison, so ... perhaps it's a Franco-Belgian ale? In any case it is quite good.

Served in a pint glass cool at NYC Beer Company.

Clear "gold" light beer with an eggshell white head.

Smells very much like mown grass and a light clove finish.

Strong Belgian yeast front. Clove and a light fruit end.

Light and low carbonation.

Seems run of the mill for this style. Other better beers.

Bright gold, thin white head that has decent retention and lacing.

S/T - Tastes a bit stronger than how it smells. Nice yeasty, funky body, backed up by only a touch of spice, and more lemon, grassy hops, finishing crisp, clean and dry, with minimal bitterness.

M - Light body, high carbonation, light and fluffy across the palate, finishes clean and dry.

O - Perfect beer to ring in the nice spring weather here. Good, but nothing I'd seek out.

Served on tap at Rattle N Hum in New York, NY

A: Pours a clear pale yellow in color with an average sized white head. The head reduces to a thin layer of bubble over the entire surface of the beer over time. Moderate lacing is observed.

S: Some fruity esters are in the aroma for this beer along with apple, pear, grape, and some grains. A light amount of malt can be detected as well.

T: Mild malt flavors with some candi sugar, lemons, and a hint of hoppy bitterness in the finish. There is a light taste of white pepper as well - like the flavor in hot and sour soup.

M: Light to medium bodied with low to moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Very enjoyable and easy to drink. I would and could enjoy multiple of these in a session. I really like the white pepper hints in this beer a lot.

On tap at J. Ryan’s in Syracuse, NY. Poured to 10 or 11oz flute-ish mini-pint kind of glass (if that makes any sense)

Appearance (3.5): Clear, pale gold—as advertised, right? Moderate head, bone-white, with some fine bubbles in the body and some soapy, splotchy lace on the sides.

Smell (4.0): A lot of nice, fruity esters in the nose—apple, pear, green grape, and some fresh grain to complement, like uncooked pasta. Very pleasant effect, overall.

Taste (4.0): Some white pepper-type spice mixed with a fruitiness dominated by pears and slightly tart green grapes—this is a very nice Belgian pale ale. The yeast note is obvious here, but it’s also got a strong toasted, bready body in the malt profile—like fresh-baked bread.

Mouthfeel (3.5): Light, quenching, moderate body—not heavy by any means but not weak and light, either—with smooth, moderate carbonation that feels appropriate for the style and weight of the beer.

Overall (4.0): Very nice, straightforward Belgian pale ale. Others aiming for this style should use this as a reference point. Also, I think that this is one of those rare beers where you can really get a sense of what Belgian yeast does for beer, taking what would otherwise be a relatively plain, straightforward beer and making it a really winning BPA. Lovely beer, and I’ll be seeking this out in the future.

Served in a pint glass

A: Pours a clear light golden color with a finger of pure white head with fine bubbles that mostly dissipates and then lingers gently on top, leaves a nice amount of thin lacing
S: clove forward then bretty Belgian yeast and a slight sweetness
T: bready initially then slight lemony brightness in the middle, the yeast and slight banana note linger on to the end
M: medium carbonation, silky, smooth, leaves the mouth dry and yet bright
O: a nice take on the style, not the best but definitly drinks smooth and bright with a nice clean finish

Nags head in Huntington pouts this in a tulip glass. It pours with a creamy white one inch head. The name liquid gold comes from the color of the beer though it's not a clear beer. It is translucent but cloudy. On the nose you smell aromas of raisins, sweetness, & a hint of honey. Our first taste does not disappoint us with its complexity. A very malty flavor with a hint of bitterness that is very subdued but helps clear the sweetness. The beer is substantial but not full-bodied. A very good drinking beer.

Pours a straw yellow color , slightly opaque, thick head that dissipates leaving nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Has a fruity nose with tones of yeast and spice. The flavor is bittersweet lemon citrus with a lot of spices and some malt, very well blended together, has a lingering sweet aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light, despite the creamy head, not to carbonated either. A very unusual beer with a unique and excellent flavor.

Hi.

I waited 2 months to just try this beer.

When I did, I was at work! Seeing how I work in a bar, I needed to wait a really long time to jut sit back and 'TASTE' it...

The nose is just...otherworldly.
Spicy, almost like a mulled cider...floral and citrusy.

You'll never find another beer quite like this.
This took some balls to commit to....points for serious balls.
Like the East German Women's Swim Team thought Blue Moon was for sissies, and decided to DO something about it!

First sip is thin on the tongue, but, wait! What IS that?!
Something happened...but, I don't know what it was....

Second sip, and, there it was AGAIN!
Spicy...is it Allspice? Nutmeg? NO.
It's CLOVES.
TOLD you you'd never had a beer like this.

This is why my nose got the mulled cider vibe.
Like one of those Christmas Ornaments made from an orange and studded with cloves!

Yet, it's NOT a dark, seasonal beer! What's up with that?

It's thin on the FRONT of the tongue, but, once it reaches your back tongue region, it cloys and hangs on. Almost a bit too much! But, wait! Lemme try again!

You can see where this is going, no?

The bronze, almost sunset-ish color is misleading. It's not a Heifeweizen.

Find this beer.
Enjoy this beer.
Sit with friends and discuss this beer.
This is not a chugger.
If you're chugging this beer, then you are clearly a., drunk, and b., not paying for it.

I enjoyed this flavorful beer with a steak and pommes frites this evening. The beer didn't really match well with the steak, but on it's own this beer was really good.

I thought it was interesting to call this a pale. The flavors were strong and complex. You get the pale malts and hops, but there was also clove. The hops were stronger than most pales.

As a reviewer, this made me question whether I should grade it worse because this shouldn't be called as a pale type. I liked it, so it received good grades.

On tap at the reBar in Dumbo. Consumed 11/3/10
A) Pours with a two finger head. Quickly settles. Bronze in color. Clear body.
S) Grassy with yeasty notes. Similar to a hefeweizen or a wheat beer.
T) Cloves. Earthy malt flavors with slight citrus sour. Finishes with a smoky effervescence.
M) Medium body. Slick tongue like smoking clove cigarette.
O) A decent brew. I might have another one.

On tap at the Captain Lawrence tasting room.

Pours a hazy golden color with a good white head that sticks around for awhile and then leaves some lacing on the glass. The nose is slightly sweet with some bready malt and also a bit of banana and clove. Yeasty spice is mild, but present. Flavor again is pretty good, but doesn't really do it for me. Mild fruit and bread. The body detracts from the taste, as it's really too full and a bit too sweet. I'd like this one thinner and dryer. Pretty good, but didn't live up to my expectations.

had this on tap at ron black's in white plains ny.

i've seen a lot of reviews of this saying the pour was cloudy or hazy, but mine was crystal clear. warm golden color...a tinge of orange. nice thick, creamy head...just slightly off-white, stayed around til about halfway through the glass.

the smell was explosive. gentle hops, and a bit of spice. bit of a fruity scent, mainly citrus.

taste was dominated by spices. slightly sweet, not intensely bitter. good balance in the malt department...but overall the spices carried more of the weight. very complex, the flavors melded together nicely. i enjoyed it, and it was bursting with flavor.

the mouthfeel was actually a lot thinner than i would have expected. the head gave an initial creamy texture, but once that was gone the body was a bit too light imo. interesting contrast between the head and body, though...i dig it.

overall, i enjoyed it. went very well with my bacon bbq burger. i would definitely try again, i feel like having it a second time would enable me to dive deeper into the beer and pick out more distinct flavors.

Appearance- was a cloudy murky yellow with thinly fading head and low carbonation, nice lively,

Smell- fruity and sweet nose, malt and spice,

Taste- this beer tasted very lively and had very nice mix of sweet malt and just enough spice to keep it from being too sweet, lots of orange and citrus tones

Mouthfeel- medium bodied with low amount carbonation

Drinkability- this beer paired excellently with my steak sandwich in nyc and was extremely enjoyable overall, even though this is a beer I am unable to get a hold of in my area it did spark my interest in trying more from this brewery when I have the opportunity again as this was quite a well made belgian style ale

A-pours a glihtly hazed pale yellow color with a creamy pure white head sitting on top.

S-light notes of candied sugar with an assertive yeast presence nicely intertwined. aromas of banana, pear, and a touch of clove round out a nice nose.

T-similar to the nose, candied sugars and lightly spiced yeast blend tgether as a fruity ester flavor adds banana, clove, and pear. a citrusy hop presence comes in with a light bitterness in the finish.

M-medium body with a soft syrupy feel, slightly oily in the finish but clean and crisp with a fair bit of carbonation.

D-tasty and easy to drink. balanced and enjoyable. not a huge fan of the yeast strand and would like a drier finish but still tasty.

This is a BPA I really like. It has the look, aroma, and smell I look for in the style. It's got a good golden color, but the head isn't quite as tall as I had hoped. Retention was good as was lacing. Smells just as expected, spicy and earthy yeast with the obvious malt aroma. Has plenty of that spice come forth--cloves, pepper, and even coriander come to mind. Medium body and decent drinkability overall.

Sampled at the brewery.

A: Pours a clear golden with a one finger white head.
S: Spicy belgian yeast with some light citrus and floral hops.
T: The citrus flavors take over while the spiciness and hoppiness fade into the background so as to not be too overpowering.
M: Well carbonated, light bodied, and smooth finish.
D: Probably my favorite beer of the day. I was able to take it home in a growler, so hopefully it holds up for a day or two!

I enjoyed this on-tap at Trinity Grill and Bar. I believe I'd had it at Waterfront Ale House before, or perhaps just heard good things about it. I found it to be so delicious as to be elevated above most of the beers I've ever had. It was golden-brown, and quickly gone.
