pours a deep brown in color with 2 fingers of head which slowly dissipate and leave a small amount of lacing behind. aromas of chocolate, chipotle peppers, oak, roasted peppers, sweet yet roasty. the flavor starts off roasty, with a nice malty sweet backbone following it.. then the peppery smokiness comes in.. a really tasty porter. a bit thin for the abv, but suitable for the style.. carbonation is on the low side as well.

this is a pretty nice beer from CL.. for the price, i'd probably stick to the imperial ipa (same size bottle), but that's just style preference on my end. this is a pretty damn good beer for the season though.

Pours a deep smokey mahogany bordering black, with a thick caramel head - good retention.

Smells of smoked malt and caramel with an herbal bite.

Full of smoked malt flavor with a burnt harshness to cut through the sweet caramel and chocolate notes. The beer does not taste sweet at all as the smoke flavor keeps all others at bay. Yet as it warms more flavors come out - coffee, raisin, plumb. This is an intriguing beer - just a little thin in the mouth.

Pours a deep chocolate brown with a large fluffy beige head atop.Aromas of smoke and earth with only mild sweetness.a creamy feel with mildly sweet brown sugar notes, the smoke is the major component wich it should be ,not alot of sweetness here. One of the first brews from CPL. and it's solid.

The beer comes in a black color with an off white head.

The aroma has tons of smoke and roasted malt. It's quite strong.

On the flavor, the front is some deep espresso, then bacon, then ash and charcoal. There is an extremely smokey aftertaste that is almost like drinking liquid smoke.

This beer has some wonderful characteristics, but really could use some other flavors to balance out the overwhelming amount of smoke that eventually invades the palate. I would share this beer for a good smoked beer experience, but don't really see drinking a reasonable volume of this.

A - Pours a thin black, not thick like a stout. Light tan, bubbly head, not real thick. No lacing, very watery and thin looking. Overall a nice look.

S - This may sound odd, but all I get is Copenhagen. I can't get past it. There obvious smoke in there too. Reminds me of old hunting trips. Not too appetizing.

T - Not hot on this one. Smokey, for sure, but not as much as the nose. A good level of woody characteristics as well. Maybe some nuttiness, but hard to tell, masked by nose.

M - Very light body, which surprises me. Smooth. Very "drinkable", per se, but I don't overly enjoy it so I wouldn't choose to keep drinking it.

O - Meh... It looks nice, taste and smell on the low scale, however. Kinda disappointed, but for what it is, its unique.

Enjoyed at the taproom.

Coal black in color. 1/8" to a 1/4" in head.

You catch dark roasted malts in the aroma, mixed well with a bit of smoke, but just enough to let you know this is a smoked style porter. Personally I don't love smoked beers that you can smell from a mile away so this is very pleasant.

The taste is wonderful. Huge malt background and a bit of smoked salmon as one would expect, but not over powering in the least. Bitter dark chocolate is the result of a good hop profile with a good use of roasted malts.

Mouthfeel is surprising thicker than expected. Their Baltic Porter was a little thin, so I expected the same here, but I find this to be far more pleasurable on the tongue. Perfectly carbonated, and the malt provides a firm, lasting finish.

I'm thinking about bringing a 6er of this back to NC. I highly recommend this one.

A-Black in the glass, one finger off white head with some lacing.

S-Rather smokey, some roasted malt, tad bit of chocolate as well.

T-Smokey, it could be dialed back to improve balance, Then roasted/burnt malt. Some chocolate and coffee.

M-Medium bodied, slightly creamy with nice carbonation.

O-A good smoked porter, better than the Class of '88 one, but no where near the level of HF F&T.
