16.9oz brown bottle with no freshness date. A case of this was leftover from our latest EBF, how the attendees did not blow through this beer is beyond me.
Pale golden straw color, crystal clear. Head retention leaves a sticky lacing on the glass. Grapefruit rind and rustic pine truck and sap with a peppery alcohol and hint of grain in the aroma. First sip reveals a quick smoothness and a rapid jump to the hop character. Tobacco, oily resin, citric rind and leafy pull ... a hard pull on the palate. Alcohol weaves in a growing warmth. As the hops let go of the palate a bit a dry cracker maltiness comes through. More of that tobacco flavor in the dry finish. Lots of hop flavor without a massive bitterness.
Why have I not had this beer before and how can a get a steady stream of it sent to my local area / piped to my house. East coast brewers throwing it back at the west coast here ... this beer touches perfection on a lot of points.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle (bottled on date of 12/31/13) into a 17oz Harpoon embossed globe
A- Pours a very hazy, yellow/gold with no more than a single fingers worth of a soapy, white head. (3.75)
S- Very bright aroma. Orange and grapefruit citrus strike the nose immediately followed by some tropical fruit (melon, mango, pineapple) along with a subtle note of pine. A perfect aroma for my senses...simply awesome! (5.0)
T- Although not overly complex, the flavor profile is quite aggressive. Resiny hop bitterness attacks the palate first, followed by a hint of sweet tropical fruits. This is followed by a lingering, sugary grapefruit that fades into a prickly/piney-ness to dry things out quite convincingly. Despite the rather hefty 9.0% ABV, the alcohol is completely masked. (4.75)
M- This DIPA possesses a rather light mouthfeel. I can only imagine that the crystal malt bill is minimal (if at all) along with some dextrose. Carbonation is on the higher side (2.55-2.60vols) and helps to keep things clean and dry. (4.75)
O- Despite this bottle being over 90 days (rule of thumb is 90-110 days for hoppy beers), I am absolutely impressed by how well the hop aroma/flavor has sustained itself. For the price (~$4.00/bottle), I challenge you to find a better DIPA for the value. (5.0)

Pour is a lightly hazed golden yellow with lots of white head and some large bubbles. Nose is heavy bready malt and caramel. Hints of hop but very faint. Either completely old extra or just a rough nose. Taste is much of the same, provides a bit more resin and pine hop. Still not hop forward. Not very good.
A-very light translucent golden yellow in color, not the best looking imperial ipa. the head is a creamy slightly off white color that has decent retention and leaves a nice lacing on the glass.
S-the nose is stronger on the malt side and brings a mix of caramel malt and a touch of brown sugar with some piney hops.
T/M-this has a good body and brings a little more hops than the nose did. it is syrupy and extremely smooth coating the mouth as it goes down. the big malt flavors are there bringing lots of caramel malt accompanied by some citrus and piney hops. the hop oils are present as it goes down and the finish brings a touch of hoppy bitterness.
D-this is more like a light american barley wine. it hides the alcohol extemely well and goes down smooth; but it is way to balanced for my taste as an imperial ipa and really leans on a stronger malt taste than its hop profile.
