This beer looks great. Somewhere between golden and amber with a pillowy white head that lingers for the duration of your drink. The smell is good, but a little underwhelming. Piney and citrusy hops dominate the slightest hint of malt sweetness. Not too complex, but a nice fresh blast of ipa hoppiness.

Wow. A very solid beer. Again, not much on complexity, but certainly refreshing. Lots of piney and citrusy hops as the smell suggested and a nice grapefruit bitterness in the finish. The high abv is not noticeable until the aftertaste and the slight burn in the esophagus. A slight maltiness gives the beer a sweetness that actually compliments all the hops, but is in itself very subtle. It has a very odd herb/spice characteristic that I can't quite put my finger on.

The beer is well carbonated with a medium bodied mouthfeel. I never get too excited about the mouthfeel of ipas or dipas, and this is about average. Drinkability is through the roof. As previously stated, it's hugely refreshing, and the abv does not hinder it's ability to be consumed in mass amounts.

Expensive bottle with no freshness date printed on.

Pours pale golden color half inch head quickly dissipates and leaves a little lacing

Smells of sweet pineapple and grapefruit

Tastes floral and citrusy with a medium amount of carbonation and bitterness with a creamy malt finish. Not a "hop bomb" as one might expect from an imperial IPA, but balanced and delicious.

Nothing too amazing about this brew. I can say that it is as smooth as a greased skillet. But by my non expert taste this falls short of other imperial ipas. I could do with more hop taste and less alcohol (you'll never hear me say that twice).

Overall for those that enjoy hop taste this isn't for you.

$ 4.99/16.9 oz at Wegmans in Jamestown, NY
Bottled 5/20/14 at 40 degrees into standard pint
Aroma of grapefruit
Head average (4.5 cm), white, creamy with rocks, very slowly diminishing to a partial layer 1.5 cm thick
Lacing good – nearly complete rings with small bubbles
Body light yellow, chill haze (clears as the beer warms)
Flavor begins with general citrus, not the grapefruit I was expecting from the nose. The flavor doesn’t last, but the astringency hangs on a short while. No alcohol, no malt, no diacetyl.
Palate light to medium, watery, lively carbonation

This is a decent IPA, not as flavorful as I would like, but not bad. The astringency is not unpleasant and is relatively short lived. The aroma and appearance are very pleasant. The price is higher than warrented by the quality.
