Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip. (Formerly known as "Captain’s Reserve Imperial IPA.")

Good looking beer. I'm not new to stronger beers or Imperial IPA's and I felt this one had a stronger alcohol taste. Unfortunately, my palate remains unshifted.

Wow, this is an excellent beer. Much lighter in color than I'd expected. Nose follows what an IIPA should smell like, lovely hop aroma. My favorite aspect of this beer is that it's incredibly hoppy, WITHOUT being absurdly bitter! This is what I look for in beer, I love hoppiness until a crazy unwarranted bitterness ruins the experience. This beer nails it, and damn do I want another.

Nothing particularly noteworthy about this beer, but a well executed double IPA. Pineapple and apricot on the nose as well as west coast sprucey hop notes. Mouthfeel is crisp but also just tacky enough from the malts underneath, which play a back seat to the bitter hop profile. Not overly boozy despite the ABV. Perhaps less balanced than the very best east coast IPAs but I certainly wouldn't turn one of these down in a bar.

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised. The lacing but pretty. Crisp resin, piney juniper on the nose. But the taste, wow. Lots of body on it, great notes of pineapple, green apple and ...apricot. But not sweet, with enough bite to keep my SO away. Only grabbed 2 bottles, dated 5/5 but heading out to get more.

Finger plus of fluffy just off-white color, slight orange tint to it, nicely contoured surface, excellent retention and thick, splotchy lacing that barely moves. The liquid is a cloudy if effulgent yellow to orange mass, not real beads but plenty of fat bubbles which rise powerfully towards the surface. Very piney and resinous nose, bodacious white grapefruit presence, brisk pineapple, nectarine, papaya, green apple fruit scents, peppery and leafy, caramel and a little butterscotch appears just before the final dissolve, strong and filling presence in your nostrils. Full-bodied, lots of grip and sticks to your palate authoritatively. The carbonation is powerful and curiously at times gives it a soft drink feel. More sourness in the white grapefruit as well as bite in the herbaceousness. The pepperiness and pine resin weave back into the whole. The tartness extends through the pineapple, papaya, nectarine, apricot, star fruit flavors. Notes of quinine at the end, not a lot of maltiness in terms of specific flavors. Lots of staying power, gets dry in texture at the end but one you will have to wash out of your mouth.

A: Hazy straw, diluted gold. Nice enough head.

S: Outrageous sweet citrus oils, hop juice, pine resin, pine.

M: A little too thin. Alcohol got a bit out of hand. Nice biting action.

T: Nice aggressive bitterness. Pine and tangerine. Lemon verbena warhead.

4/23/15 Stirling Hotel

Pours ok, nothing special kinda straw color with an ok head and lace. The smell is a piney west coast hoppiness but a little reserved here as well. The taste is decent, the pine come through with a more tangy hop in there as well. It just doesn't go far enough for me. Overall it's a decent beer but not enough in this class to go seek out another.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance
Golden yellow with 1 finger of white head that dissipates quickly. Excellent clarity with moderate carbonation.

Nose
Pineapple, candy sugar, papaya rind, pine needle, grapefruit zest, and florals.

Taste
Pine needle, bright florals, papaya rind, and pineapple. Light candy sugar backbone. Grapefruit zest and sun-dried pine. Some booze is apparent along with notes of onion.

Mouthfeel
Medium bodied, oily, sticky, dry, and bitter.

Overall
Very pine forward. Bitter and dry with some alcohol apparent.

Clear golden yellow, constant carbonation with bubbles racing to the top, white head, tightly packed fades to a thin lace on top. Pine up front on the nose with a hint of citrus. Slightly sweet up front with the taste then the hops kick in with a bite. Nicely balanced flavor that is not over bitter with the hops. Smooth in the mouth. The 9% is well hid as there are no boozy notes anywhere in this beer. Well done!

Reviewed from tasting notes. Minty, piney hop nose with grapefruit and citrus. Pours brilliant gold with a stiff, persistent 2” off-white head. On the palate fruit, orange, grapefruit, orange rind and grapefruit rind are balanced balanced by a big assertive hop bitterness and rich malt flavors. Medium body, medium low carbonation.

16 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Nice looking beer, hazy. Good amount aromas coming off this one. Feel is creamy, pretty solid but rather astringent tasting to me . . . it's ok though, I like it.

Had it on tap into a tulip glass. Nice head, decent retention with medium lacing. Nice slightly hazy pale straw color. Deep earthy piney aroma. Flavor followed nicely, and the mouthfeel was not bad. I might have preferred just a bit more malt. Overall an excellent beer that I would happily order again.

Poured from a bottle, dated 10/17/2014, into my tulip.

Pours a clear golden yellow color, 1 finger of off-white color head. Clings to the side nice it fades. Has a nice earthy aroma. The taste is sweet up front, with a bitter aftertaste. Tongue coating mouthfeel, and a little alcohol heat. Overall it's a very good IIPA, but not the big hop bomb I was expecting.

Hazy straw yellow pour with a decent hoppy and floral nose.

Juicy as hell as the taste explodes with hops and a nice sweet and smooth finish. Lots of flavors come in with plenty of citrus fruit, resin and pine. When fresh this is a really enjoyable double.

Pours a golden orange with a large lasting off white head with good lacing. Sweet caramel malt, earthy herbal and pine hops along with some mellow citrus notes fill the senses and taste buds. a medium to full body, smooth with moderate carbonation. Has a good caramel malt background with good earthy herbal hops and citrus notes for balance on the end, has bit of a hop kick at the end. A very good, smooth drinking and tasty brew.

Appearance: It has a nice hazy golden/yellow color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of grapefruit, citrus, bitter pine resins, some grassiness and some light bready malts.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has citrus, grapefruit, a nice pine resin bitterness, slight grass and some bready/toasty malts on the back.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium carbonation with a very nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas. This bottle isn't that fresh but this beer is still solid and full of pungent hops. I will definitely need to compare with a fresher bottle.

Bottle dated 4/29/14 just purchased at WF Bowrey... wish it was a bit fresher, but excited to try this beer. Poured into snifter.

A- Pale orange/golder with fluffy white heat that fades into almost nothing but leaves a delicate lacing on the glass
S- Wow, the smell is nice... piney and grassy hops all over the nose. Maybe a bit of citrus... mouth is watering
T- WOW... backs up the smell. Definately along the lines of a DIPA that is very hoppy, but balanced with the malts. Big sweetness, but the hops are huge! Pine to citrus peel. Like biting into the skin of a grapefruit or orange. Juicy HOP BOMB.
M- Medium

O- WOW. This beer impresses. I am a bit disappointed that I just picked it up this week and it has 4 months on it, but it still kills. I wonder what it is like super fresh?

Medium body. Crisp carbonation.
Nice tropical fruits and hop bitterness, very drinkable
