750ml bottle procured from the NYC Whole Foods on Bowery, poured into a Stone OG tulip, my first ever CL beer!

Appearance is a cloudy golden straw hue, nice big creamy head that gradually erodes to rockiness, light lacing

Smell is a range of citrus and sweet syrupy fruits, Belgian yeast and light pine hops, spices, sugary candy

Taste is met initially by flavorful hops, mostly grassy and floral with light citrus and pine, combined with light sweet fruits (pears and peaches), some candied sweetness and syrup in the middle are muddled by the prickly carbonation which is a bit much throughout, finishes dry and bitter with a touch of sweetness

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, slick and prickly texture, high carbonation is somewhat detracting to the overall presence

Drinkability is moderate, this is a peculiar beer that seems to be a bit off-style with the high hop presence that is compounded by over-carbonation, overall a decent beer but a bit disappointing from what I've heard about CL, either way I definitely look forward to trying more styles from this brewery in the future

Pours, you guessed it, EXTRA gold in color with a white head. The head sticks around and embraces the glass. Nose is Piney and malty. Taste is almost sweet, however the smooth waver of slight bitterness takes over then fades as quickly as it started.

Hazy amber body with a generous, long lasting white head. Aroma of orange blossoms & tropical fruit. More sweet than bitter with pineapple, tropical fruits, lemon, tangerine & hops. Feel is excellent with plenty of carbonation & alcohol providing a long last tickling of the tongue. I have a of overly hoppy beers but this one is delicious & very thirst quenching.

Bottle, kindly shared by fellow homebrewer Even. ABV not mentioned on the label. Deep golden colour, big to moderate head. Pleasant aroma of fruity American hops. Fruity flavour with notes of Belgian yeast and American hops. Quite good.

So happy they decided to brew this one again, poured from a 16oz can dated 3/17/20.

Very solid tripel and I love the Americanized portions. On the Belgian side, it tastes as good as some of the best imported Tripels from Dupont and the like I've had, but each sip finishes with a nice hop flavor and bitterness thanks to the dry hopping. Very crisp and clean on the aftertaste. Probably the best Americanized tripel I've and if you're a hop fan this Beer will blow you away. If you're looking for a traditional tripel and do not like hops this offering might not be for you.

If you see it, pick it up and you won't be disappointed.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer is a hazy, pale, golden yellow coloring with a sparse, foamy, white head. Aromas of toasted grains, cut grass, pineapple, mango, pepper spice, and a bready backbone. Flavors are honey and pineapple sweet, with grassy and pepper highlights, floral notes, lemon zest, and subtle piney notes, all on a bready backbone. Full bodied, kept effervesced and crisp with the carbonation and dry endfeel. Aftertaste is fruity and hoppy, lingering on past the dry, crisp finish.

Xtra Gold aught to be spelled with two, maybe even three 'X's - it is an extremely pale, barely hazed, and remarkably resplendent golden colour. It's the kind of thing to frame a Rubens or Rembrant with. It looks classy, well-made, and expensive - especially with such a finely spun web of lacing.

Belgian yeast provides plenty of aromatic fruitiness. So do Amarillo hops. Combined, this bouquet has a powerful amount of both orchard and citrus fruits, as well as a tickling amount of peppery spice. It is delicious enough I accidentally dipped my nose into the liquid. It's a scent worth memorizing.

The taste can be screamingly peppery on the mid-palate (a heat partly enhanced by the double digit alcohol) but the aftertaste belongs to the hops; a piny and herbal bitterness lingers faintly. Contrary to how it may sound, these qualities actually lend it drinkability by adding excitement and intricacy to mellow, light flavours of pear, honey, toast, flower petals, lemon, and apple.

I purchased this bottle knowing full well it was pushing a year old. What I didn't know was that it was still so fresh and lovely, fruity and spicy, still so full of that sunny Belgian 'joie de vivre'. I review a lot of beers and few catch me as off-guard as this - I expected good but this is fantastic, especially considering so few American brewers can properly imitate Belgian Tripels (let alone emulate them).

There's a big preamble on the label that makes perfectly clear Xtra Gold is an *American* ale and is meant as merely a "tribute to the great Belgian brewers". The thing is this tastes and drinks like it were made by one of those great Belgian brewers. Captain Lawrence is a good brewer that is capable of making great beers but this one is nothing short of world-class.

Pours into a large tulip glass a slight hazed apricot color with a thinner head than expected wich was gone pretty quickly.Citrus and floral hops with some spiced yeasty phenols, good hop profile for a tripel. An even better hop profile on the palate, tropical fruits and grass with a hint of earth,a decent shot of yeasty spiced phenols in the finish, doesn't seem as big to me as it is.The looks of the beer are not great but the rest of the beer is,I like the hopped up American versions of the style.
