A batch 3 bottle that was so generously shared by my good friend Kris, thanks man!

A: An extremely fizzy, hazy, golden hued beer that displayed a beautiful white fluffy head momentarily.

S: A strong tart punch upfront that's then followed by vanilla, wood, grape, apples, and a mixture of spices.

T: The sour and tart punch is much subdued, but still very much a large part of the overall flavor profile. What I like the most is the strong wood flavors and subtle notes of sweet malt, banana, lemon and vanilla.

M: A light bodied beer that has a decent amount of carbonation and some robust drying qualities, sometimes a bit too much.

D: If this were to come in a 750ml, I'm sure I would be able to polish it off quite easily.

Overall: Robust, complex and easy to drink; one of the better sours out there. Do yourself some justice and try this beer. Cheers!

Pours a nice yellow gold with a slight tint of orange. Slighty hazy. A nice fizzy head forms, but dissipates faster than methadone in a rehab clinic. Vanished within seconds. No lacing. For any other style, I would knock the appearance down much further, but lambics/wilds arent exactly known for their head retention. And I'd much rather have it this way than have it all over my dining room table like last time *cough* smoke from the oak wine *cough*

Nose is quite good. Ripe crisp juicy granny smith apples. Some brett and barnyard funk, horseblanket etc are defenitely present. Slight peach and some vinous grape and oak.

Taste is very nice. The green apple does jump out in front, along with some vinous grape. Oak and wild yeasts dominate the middle of the palate. Not mouth rapingly sour, but defenitely a sour beer. White grape peaks its head out before the finish and rides to the end, but it is nicely subtle. The finish is beautifully dry, and oak, horseblanket, and slight sweet grape are mixed with more green apple like flavors on the finish and linger into the aftertaste. The barrel aging is well done here. Something about wine barrels just accents a lighter color lambic/wild so well.

Mouthfeel is pretty much spot on for the style. Despite being a notoriously fizzy style, this one is a tiny bit overcarbonated, but just tiny. Dryness on the finish is top notch, and the level of sourness is ideal for a beer of this kind.

Drinkability is quite solid. Easy drinking, especially for being on the high end of the abv spectrum stylewise. The sourness is not too enamel stripping, and the dryness is spot on. The overcarbonation is so slight, that it does not become abrasive but is close.

Overall, a fine wild ale from Captain Lawrence. I like the subtleness of the grape flavor, and the barrel aging is well done. Cant beat a nice blonde wild ale aged in wine casks. First temptation, now this...america has come a long way. It would make me more comfortable to see some better head retention on this one, but aside from that, really no major flaws. A great beer, defenitely one worth seeking out.

750ml bottle, batch 2. sampled dec 28/08.

pours hazy pale yellow, a bit chunky, with just a bit of very fine white head that quickly drops to a scant ring around the glass. a few spots of lace.

aroma is wild. big blast of lemon and cider vinegar. leather. horse blanket and barnyard funk. raw oak. light alcohol. cracker. white bread. bit of grain. white grape.

taste is good. light puckering lemon and cider vinegar, but not overly so. just a touch of caramel, but without any real sweetness. cracker and white bread. horse blanket and barnyard funk. leather. bit of tobacco leaf. white grape and white wine character. raw oak. there's a bunch of tannins at play here too - wine tannin/grape tannin/oak tannin, all lending an almost hoppy bite and drying finish that i wouldn't really call "bitter" but has a similar character.

mouthfeel is good. light body with a nice dry finish. fairly low carbonation level.

drinkability is good. nicely balanced. great funky and lightly sour presence that doesn't overpower the light grape/wine and malty elements. not the most deep wild i've had, but it's got its own unique place on the spectrum that i'm enjoying. good stuff.

This beer's first sip is tart as hell. Wow.
Pours a hazy yellowy gold, very little head or lace. Smells like vinous white grapes-- like a chardonnay or a pinot. Lots of big flavor! Smell has a hint or tropical fruits and white grapes-- like green sour grapes. Taste is tart. Tart is still the word.

A light, slightly syrupy body due to minimal carbonation. The beer still drinks nice and easy. It is really quite good!

750 ml bottle with many thanks to littlebreeze and her ever-so-generous husband!

pours a urine yellow wiht a white head that goes away almost instantly. has champagne like bubbles coming up from the bottom but they dont hold in a head on the top at all. would look much nicer if they held the head.

smell was sour, woody, brett funk a little but not overwhelming, and a white grape skin scent

taste is sour with a white grape mid palate flavor, some subtle oak, tangy white grape, unripe pear, and some brett funk, although I tend to feel it is a little underdeveloped funkiness at this point. finishes with a slightly tart white wine flavor. overall a little sweetness balances well.

lots of carbonation but no head. it finishes leaving a coating on the back of my tongue which makes me want to clear my throat. If i had it with food I am sure this would be no issue.

Easy to drink, had no problem finishing off the entire 750 in about an hour. would pair great with a garlic and olive oil pasta, or a light seafood dish or fish. I would rate it a 5 for drinkability if it was readily available as that is the only draw back in drinkability IMO.

Dont mortgage the house, but seek this one out if you can.

Batch 2. The beer is a bright and vibrant gold with a great two finger head and good retention.

I'm greeted by the aroma of Brett and a small amount of earthy hops. The Muscat grapes impart a unique floral and sweet aroma that works very well with the musty barnyard Brett. Other aromas are of oak, spices, lemon, and just a little sweetness. No alcohol is noticeable. The flavor is of sweet and tart grapes with some oak and funk, with just a touch of alcohol. I drank this when it was first released in July of 2008, and I recall the Muscat character being much more potent then, than it is now. The flavor is still great, but it has faded a bit from what it was.

Light bodied with good carbonation and a dry mouthfeel.

Light hazy gold, large head that makes a lot of noise and dies really quickly, leaving nary a wisp behind. Nose is first of brett, champagne yeast, and some vague sparkling light fruits. There's a burst of white grape, it's definitely that and it's really developed, one of the strongest fruit characters in any beer I've had. The oak is really nice and subtle, perfectly dry. Prickly mouthfeel. The finish is ridiculously long -- on an aside I went to the release and had a single sip out of a glass there, and I literally could still taste the flavor evolving 20 minutes into the car ride home. Really a pefect, wonderful sour character, not overly so, but really elegant and refined. Bright, clean, crisp, really awesome.

****Had a few bottles of this since the initial rating, and the score has receded a bit. The grapes come across a bit too much at times and that effervescent sparkling quality isn't really there anymore. batch 2 has been my favorite. GO BACK TO THE 750ML BOTTLES FOR THIS!

****Second edit, this time reviewed from a 750ml batch 1 bottle, consumed March 2011. Just going to highlight some of the differences here. Carbonation is particularly high on this. Nose is lots of oak, brett, and a bright tropical fruit note. Flavor is awesome -- reminds me of later batches in a way, especially batch two with that really funky wet sock brett, but this has tons of lime acidity and kind of a pineapple tropical fruit to it. All about the acids here. Works wonderfully. So bright and well integrated, definitely the best batch.

Pour a slightly hazy golden yellowish orange color with a thin half finger white head that immediately fades into a thin ring. Not much in the way of lacing. Visible carbonation.

Earthy funk aroma with lots of bretty effervescence, barnyard mustiness, oak and light fruit notes.

Slightly puckering with a nice amount of light tart sourness that isn't overpowering or acidic at all. Earthy and funky with lots of dry brett, earthy oak and a surprisingly prominent light fruit presence. Slightly vinous with hints of light grape, apple and pear. The fruit is very prominent and adds complexity and a sweetness that balances out the sourness/funk. The combination of balance and light funk make this beer very drinkable.

Batch 4. 375ml bottle. big thanks to onix1ager

Nice to see that it pours out with a fast falling but 1 to 2-finger white head. The color is a hazy but pretty, yellow orange and shows nice carbonation streams. At first pour the body is nearly clear.

The smell is acidic funk, oak and grapes. It would be very wine-like in many respects if not for the funk.

The taste is very acidic and tart, some oak with wine grapes and light citrus. Again, it would be more wine-like if not for the funk which seems to be at a lower level than in the aroma.

Mouthfeel is medium with moderate but nice carbonation and is dry.

Overall: Yeah, this is a fine beer. I wish I had more both to drink & age. This has it all going on, nice tartness, nice funk, oak, vinous quality and complexity. Can't really knock the head much on this either.

A-Cloudy golden yellow much like homemade hard cider. Thin off-white head vanished without a trace.

S-A bit of musty band-aid quickly drowned with a sharp zing of lemon, apple, pear, peach and a zing of tart grape. Oak notes in the background.

T-Sharp sour grapes,lemon and cider. Oak astringency and dryness come in at the dry finish.

M-Medium-light bodied, zippy and effervescent. Nice lingering oak dryness and sour grape tartness. Much like a sparkling cider.

D-Tasty for sure. I really like dry, hard ciders....and this is about as close to that I have had in a beer. Very well done.

Bottle courtesy bret27. Poured into a 400 mL Bruery tulip. Hazy opaque light-goldenrod color with a filmy white head. Aroma is lemony with light meringue sweetness, some brett, apple, phenols, and a vinous note. Flavor of wine grapes, lemon, sour apple, chlorine, pepper, a hint of woody tannin. Great complexity all around. Not a ton of acidity but firmly sour with a nice drinkability.

This poured out as a nice clear golden color with a fizzy white head on top. The retention comes and goes rather quickly. The lacing is minimal here. The smell of the beer is definitely funky, lots of tart grape aroma on the nose. The taste of the beer gives off a tart white wine-like flavor, there is quite a bit of sourness on this one also. The mouthfeel is light bodied and heavily carbonated with a dry tart finish. Overall I found the pucker factor on this one to be quite high, it really was a solid brew. Glad I got to try this one.
