APPEARANCE - Cloudy, 2-finger head that dissipates slowly. Light colored. Good lacing.

AROMA/SCENT - Hops, gruit, floral, sweet.

TASTE - Hops, sweet, citrus, apple. ABV somewhat hidden.

MOUTHFEEL/PALATE/TEXTURE - Good carbonation, drier than expected, light, effervescent, crisp, refreshing.

VALUE - $10 for a 12 oz. glass - not that bad for a specialty beer at a restaurant.

OVERALL/DRINKABILITY - Lacks the usual kick you get from Tripels. Surprisingly dry. Halfway between hard cider and an Imperial IPA.

Poured from a 12oz bottle (Bottled On Date: 09/17/14) into a Rastal Teku 2.0 glass.

A- A careful pour reveals a perfectly hazy, golden yellow with ~1-finger, creamy, white head. Although it didn't stay for very long, the head retention was impressive considering the 11% ABV. (5.0)

S- Whoa...massive aromas of Apple, Vanilla, Coconut, Melon, Peach, Mango and the ever-so-slight hint of those classic banana and clove esters imparted by the Belgian yeast. The 11% ABV goes absolutely invisible on the nose. (5.0)

T- This is where the barrel-aging really takes a hold of the proceedings. The palate is consumed with Apple, Vanilla and Spice from the residual spirit left in the barrel, yet the palate isn't overwhelmed. The finish has a champagne-like, dry and clean finish. Any alcohol is only felt as a slight warming in the chest after the beer has warmed considerably. (5.0)

M- Despite the elevated ABV, the body is only medium (at best). A healthy dose of carbonation keeps the palate clean and prepared for the next sip. The drinkability of Golden Delicious is remarkably high. (5.0)

O- For those who would otherwise not think a Belgian Tripel aged in Apple Brandy Barrels wouldn't work...it does, and in spades! What's more, I cannot find a flaw with this beer. This is one of the most intense beers in flavor, aroma...a unique (and exceptional) barrel aging project that has produced an incredible beer. Like Victory's White Monkey and Allagash's Curieux, Captain Lawrence married the Belgian Tripel with Apple Brandy Barrels with exquisite results. Add to the fact that Golden Delicious is now offered in 12oz 4-Packs, this is a real treat and am happy to have scored a few bottles. (5.0)

An American Triple Ale aged in apple brandy barrels. Pours a slightly dusty golden color, perhaps just beyond the lovibond of a real pilsner. The barrel effect produces a subtle and noticeable vanilla/crisp apple note. The rest of the drinking experience is that of pleasant beer booze. The overall 88 score (at this time) doesn't do it justice. This is a great beer for those looking for an elegant drinkable cognac-like beer moment. Classy beer, and as one has already put it, this concoction is about as good as it gets. For 11.00/4, it is bargain.
