Poured from a growler into an American pint glass.
Bear in mind this is my first pumpkin ale, so I may be a little off on the parameters of the style. Here goes nothing:
A--Pretty straight copper with a finger of fizzy off-white head that died quickly and left no lacing. Lots of active carbonation in the glass during the tasting.
S--Up front it's all squash, all the time. The only other thing I could trace out was some floral and some nutmeg, and that was upon repeated sniffs.
T--The pumpkin comes through in the very beginning on the sides of the mouth and then resurges on the aftertaste. In between you get subtle spice pulls--mostly nutmeg, again, but something a bit sweeter, like a cinnamon stick essence. Only pumpkin pie spice missing was clove. The finish is pretty dynamic, with a decent hop dryness tugging away amid a full deep squash ring that lasts well after you're done tasting. The finale on this one is the best part of it.
M&D--Feel is viscous, almost oily, with a sting of carbonation. Don't know the ABV but it doesn't seem high and is certainly not prominent. Not eminently drinkable in the Platonic sense--just as I don't want to sit down to a bowlful of butternut, I'm not going to throw back five or six of these--but this CL offering may be better than others. I'm ignorant in that dept. But if CL's track record is any judge, most of the pumpkins I taste after this will fall off. Would pair well with game.

This is one of the best pumpkin ales I've ever had. It's a great Fall beer that doesn't overpower your senses in terms of the pumpkin and the Ale is far more important to this brewer than the pumpkin taste to it. Great head to it and an overall solid taste.
