This is one of the best pumpkin ales I've ever had. It's a great Fall beer that doesn't overpower your senses in terms of the pumpkin and the Ale is far more important to this brewer than the pumpkin taste to it. Great head to it and an overall solid taste.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours a slightly hazed orange, one finger of white head, very bubbly, mild lacing.
S - More based on spice, very peppery, biscuit malt, some mildly roasted malt.
T - Taste is very peppery, some nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, some pie crust and biscuity malt, some tartness.
M - Overly carbonated, mild feel.
O - Very spicy and peppery not well balanced and lacking in pumpkin

Poured a hazy amber orange with a thin head of loose tan foam. There was a burst of bubbles after the pour then a steady stream of effervescence. Nose is lightly sweet malt and a light spice. Nutmeg, allspice and a little ginger. Some sweet biscuit. I am not getting a lot of pumpkin but it's faint int he background. Taste is dry biscuit with a nice toasted malt sweetness. Light spice. The carbonation is very strong and the body of the beer is thin so it drinks a little watery and a lot like soda. There's a touch of pumpkin flavor that becomes stronger as it warms and a mild bitter finish that is dry and tasty.

The nose on this one is very pleasing but the drink is too thin. It was just ok.

A pretty"below"standard pumpkin ale here.Pours into a standard pint glass a cleat light brass color with a minimal head.Light pumpkin spice in the nose along with a sour note wich I didn't care for much.A lighter fizzy feel in the mouth, flavors have a sourness too that leaves the spice notes behind, for a non- funked out pumpkin ale this has some sourness that Iam not a fan of.Captain Lawrence from what I have had is pretty top notch...except for this.

A-Hazy ruby orange in the glass, two finger head but not much carbonation,

S-Pumpkin, cinnamon, spices some earthy notes.

T-Rather sweet, not too spice heavy, mild pumpkin with slight bitterness.

M-Lighter, tad watery, not much carbontion.

O-What can I say, I love pumpkin ales. Not the best, but enjoyable.

A: A medium amber with good clarity. The head is low and made of long lasting ivory bubbles.

S: The smell is nicely balance with moderate aromas of spice, malt sweetness and pumpkin with the spice being mainly note of allspice and ginger with lesser amounts of clove and cinnamon.

T: A medium amount of pie spice flavors blended with a caramel malt sweetness and pumpkin flavors. There is a moderately-low hop bitterness that combines with the spice to balance the malt. The finish is moderately dry.

M: A medium-full bodied beer that feels pretty light from the high level of carbonation. A slight astringency from the spice noted in the aftertaste.

O: I like that the spice isn't overdone and the overall balance if the flavors is there. Between the spice, carbonation and dryness it's almost drinks like a pumpkin saison.

A - A quite hazy orange brown color with just a 1/4 inch of head that sticks around for a bit.
S - Mostly nutmeg and some cinnamon. Baked apple sweetness mixed with malty sweetness. Average pumpkin ale smells.
T - Well it does have a solid malt and spice presence with mild clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg flavors but very mild vegital taste which is somewhat appreciated but makes the beer lack in complexity. Not bad.
M - Light to medium for the ABV its easy to drink and session able.

Overall I didn't expect much for under 2 bucks for the single but its a pretty balanced pumpkin ale. Far from the best but I had worse.

Pours a hazy light-copper with a thin white head. Aroma is of apples, cloves, cinnamon. Taste has a surprisingly tart element to it that comes in up front. Spices follow: a bit of cinnamon and ginger(?) but muddled. Finishes dry and crisp with a slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and watery. Carbonation isn't excessive, but the beer is so light that there's a definite carbonation bite. Overall an OK light pumpkin beer, but I wish the spices were cleaner and it had a bit more body to it.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle in to a tulip glass.

A- Pours a hazy orange/ amber body with a short white head that recedes quite quickly.

S- The nose is not particularly strong, but quite good. An even mix of pumpkin and spice mingle with something I can only describe as sweet potato.

T- Taste follows the nose, except it exhibits more of a nutty flavor throughout. The flavor is mild and strays far from the sweetness I expected from the style.

M- Light and very carbonated. I wish the feel was a bit thicker.

O- Very balanced pumpkin ale. I just wish they would amp the flavors up just a bit. If you're not in to the super sweet and spice-filled pumpkin ales, then this one might be up your alley.

Poured out of a bottle into a pint glass Nice to be drinking this while watching football on a slightly chilly night.

A: Light brown/amber/copper in color head dissipates pretty quickly some lacing

S: Many spices. Maybe some pumpkin and spice in there too

T: Yep, just like the nose there is tons of spice. Nutmeg and cinnamon. Good pumpkin flavor and a nice sweetness thats not too overbearing. Still not on the same level as the elite pumpkin beers.

M: The spices linger on the tongue of this light bodied beer.

O: I wish this had some more malt back bone and pumpkin to it as the spice dominates. Also, it was a little bit watered down compared to some of the greats. Regardless, it's enjoyable and a beer I could have a few of.

Better than the average pumpkin ales (sam adams/blue moon/starhill) but not the best pumpkin ale that I've had. Picked it up while on a trip to NYC, enjoyed a local brew. Pours dark with a medium flavored body and a few hints of nutmeg and spice in the brew. A little pumpkin flavor on mouthfeel.

Not much to say about this beer. The color is spot on of most pumking beers. My nose could not pick up anything that stands out. Carbed up kind of a hint of a malty taste. Over all i dont see why they would call this a pumking beer. Would not buy this beer again.

Slightly hazed caramel orange colore with particulate matter suspended. Low head dissipates quickly. Very faint aroma of malt and spice. So faint that I can't identify the spice.

Flavor is initially malty, but moves to odd spices and faint vanilla. Pumpkin seems to be missing, as does the typical cinnamon and nutmeg. Again, I can't identify the spice. Odd flavor in the finish that I also can't identify except to say unpleasant.

Mouthfeel has a sharpness from overcarbonation, and finishes metallic. I'm just not enjoying this beer.

enjoyed from a goblet chilled purchased from half time.

The color is like sunset red with amber highlights and thick light beige cap with sticky lace and fine bead. The smell is a mix of sweet and spicy with caramel notes and light nutmeg with subtle woody nose with mild ginger-like tropical accent. The feel is good, moderately carbonated with a slight sweetness with mild spiced texture and gentle bitterness and low alcohol with semidry finish.

The taste is mild up front with light toasted malt and slight caramel sweetness with a subtle spice flavor that gets more dominant toward the middle with a light ginger tinge and subtle nutmeg like citrus tinge with a vegetal tanginess in the finish. Overall this is a good beer with nice spicing, but alittle spicier than most and somewhat sweet but still a drinkable pumpkin

Pours a dark amber tinted orange, moderate cap of froth. Scent quite muted, light spicing and moderate pumpkin, hint of green apple. Taste expands seasonal spices a bit, pumpkin is flavorful but relatively uninteresting, needs more sweetness. Medium bodied, fairly high carbonation. A good, but middle of the road pumpkin brew.

a nice clean amber pour with a minimal amount of head turning into a small rim of foam around the glass. smells of pumpkin pie, apples.
tastes a bit acidic up front.. kind of a vomit-like apple crossover... not saying it's a bad thing.. apples are actually not that bad coming back up! lol, but really though, it's a bit tart.. apply, then the pumpkin pie spices come up.. and it leaves a tart/acidic finish.
light-medium body.. nicely carbonated with a SLIGHT creamy feel on the lips.

i'm just either over the whole pumpkin beer thing, or this is the first captain lawrence beer i didn't really care for all that much. sorry guys, not your fault - i don't think! it's definitely very sweet.. so those looking for a sweet pumpkiny beer will be into it!

A. Very light bronze color. It is completely see through with a few bubbles popping up here and there. It has a white foamy head that leaves some lace.

S. Very soft malty scent, mixed with lemon.

T. It tastes more like a light ale than a pumpkin. There are hints of pumpkin, some sugar, some malt. But a very mild taste all around.

M. Cirsp and refreshing.

O. It's a good beer, but it lacks a real kick, which I like out of a pumpkin ale. Nice, but nothing that stands out, either.

A: Pours a crystal clear dark orange to copper in color with some highlights of amber and light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall dense light beige head that reduces to a large patch of thin head and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Upfront the aroma of this beer is all pumpkin and it smells quite natural (no hints of artificial flavorings) and lighter aromas of pumpkin pie spices including cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.

T: This beer has a very pleasant flavor of natural pumpkin and caramel malts with some lighter notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Light amounts of non-lingering bitterness in the finish.

M: Slightly lighter than medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation.

O: I enjoyed that this was a pumpkin beer with lighter hints of pumpkin pie spices rather than liquid pumpkin pie - since this is not sweet I find it much easier to drink and more enjoyable. Definitely one to have again.

Poured from a 64 oz growler into a nonic tumbler- pours a clear, dark amber color with less than a finger of head, minimal retention and no lacing.

Smell is pretty typical of a pumpkin ale- pumpkin, some cinnamon, balanced with some caramel malt, very faint trace of citrus hops.

Taste is consistent with the nose- a little bitterness up front, followed by the pumpkin, then barley makes its appearance, taken over by the pumpkin and spice. Nice, but nothing groundbreaking.

Mouthfeel is nice- medium light body, light prickly carbonation, sweet finish. This is a decent pumpkin ale- as I said, nothing particularly interesting but easy drinking. Manages to fend off the heat from Sriracha.

As an aside: I wonder if american brewers who make pumpkin ales instead of oktoberfests don't want to put in the time to lager? The marzen is a better style in my opinion...

Enjoyed in a pint glass

A: pours a clear light orange color with ample carbonation bubbles moving towards the top, nice fizzy white head which lingers very shortly before dissipating, leaves minimal lacing
S: really nice pumpkin spice scent, cloves are prominent, small amount of actual pumpkin notes
T: really smooth taste, nice and light on the spiciness but still with plenty of character, nice notes of nice cinnamon, slight clove, and overall pumpkin notes
M: medium carbonation tingle up front, smooth throughout, drinks beautifully light and smooth
O: quite happy with this one, although i feel like there is plenty of room for the pumpkin bombs were so used to seeing, i think it is exponentially more difficult and ballsy to make some thing like this, well balanced, highly drinkable, and non offensive

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Enjoyed immediately following the Harpoon UFO Pumpkin, and was surprised that I thought this was a slight notch below. But still very good.

Pours medium dark copper with some white foam a top. Its a clear kind of dark. Very faint pumpkin smell, some cinammon/nutmeg notes. Flavorful pumpkin taste with a smooth cinammon finish. Light bodied, smooth, loaded flavor. Cleaner than most. Very good.

A: The beer is clear amber orange in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high dense light beige head.
S: There are light aromas of pumpkins in the nose along with some hints of spices.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but has more pronounced flavors—pumpkin is most noticeable followed by notes of nutmeg and hints of cinnamon. There is a very light amount of bitterness; no sweetness is perceptible.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I liked this pumpkin beer because it was very drinkable and it had a nice flavor of pumpkins (not artificial) that was complemented by pumpkin pie spices (not dominated by them).

A - dark browish orange, an average pours shows a thin white head that fades quickly, scant carbonation drifts upward

S - typical pumpkin beer aromas float up, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg. To me this has the sam problem as almost all pumpkin beers, all spice no pumpkin. Though the spices in this one seems somehow more inviting than others I have tried.

T - more of the same, with the roasted nutty malts roaring up from the depths to join the spice army in the battle to subdue the pumpkin flavors. However the malts and spices combine with the remnants of any pumpkin flavors for a great pumpkin pie type flavor.

M&O - thick and smooth on the palate, with a great layered flavor. Spices and nutty roasted malts. One thing, in the grocery stores carry canned pumpkin and canned Pumpkin Pie Mix, which is pumpkin plus the necessary spices. Why don't breweries make the same distinction? Would a pumpkin pie beer sell any less than a pumpkin beer? Regardless, this is a better example of a style I'm not particularly fond of. Kudos to CL.
