Pours a mostly clear plum like color with a wispy off white head that quickly dissipates into a very light ring. Not flat, but not much life.

The aroma is quite oaky. Tart on the nose, wine grapes come to mind. Slight vinegar acidity.

An oaky tart blast to start but it mellows nicely. When it mellows, the grape flavor comes out. Not grape juice but an enjoyable tart grape fruitiness. Some vinegar acidity but not palate crushing. No real malt flavor but enough of a presence to give the beer some stability. There is a nice brightness to the flavor.

Light feel with very soft, almost non-existent, carbonation. Sour and tart on the palate but its more than manageable.

A very well made beer. Not a huge fan of the style but Cpt. Lawrence made a flavorful and drinkable version in which serious sour fans and their more moderate cousins can enjoy.

#1600 finally!! Seems like it took forever between 1500 and 1600.

Batch #4

A: Pours a clear dark garnet red in color with some very light amounts of visible carbonation and some moderate amounts of dark brown + dark amber highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall sudsy pinkish beige head that reduces to a small patch of extremely thin film and a medium thick sudsy ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of sour cherries, grapes, and oak from the barrel aging.

T: Moderate to strong flavors of initial tartness from the sour cherries with some moderate notes of grapes. There are lighter notes of oak and vanilla from the barrel aging.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of prickly acidity. Just a hint of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Overall this beer is pretty easy to drink and the alcohol is well hidden considering the strength. Upfront there is a sharp acidic tartness but that fades a bit as the beer warms up.
