Reviewed on 4/3/2010. Growler. Pours a semi clear brown with no head. Aroma of lots of spices, chestnut, slight honey, bready malt. Flavor is very similar -- bready malt, chestnut, Belgian yeast, slight jammy sweetness. Ok, but it was nothing special and definitely starts to wear on the palate by the end of the glass.

750ml bottle: This one pours a ruby tinged darker amber color. There was a small light tan head that didn’t linger long. The nose is very nose. Spicy, yeasty, some malts, honey, dark fruits. The taste is very good. Some tart cherry, spices, malts, honey, other berries. There is a lot going on here for a 6% beer. Very nice!

Bottle pour at mrbubbler's tasting.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, fruit, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly sour fruit and honey flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earthy bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with interesting chestnut aromas and flavors.

Another treat in a trade from zipper8650

Poured from bottle into Duvel Tulip

A: Pours dark reddish brown with a 2 finger fizzy head that settles quickly into a light bubbly ring around the top of the brew. Little-to-no lacing on the glass.

S: There is some definite funk and yeast smells. Sweet malty hints and definitely lots of honey. With a giant whiff I definitely get a bit of jam as well.

T: Very tart taste, as expected from the funkiness in the nose - maybe not to this degree. The finish is dominated with honey, which is unique for the flanders/sourish style. As it warms with every sip I get more and more of the jam. Some smokey malt flavors hide in the taste as well.

M: High carbonation. Moderate body. Dry. Good balance to the unique tastes for the style.

O: This one is balanced extremely well. I had such little expectations, due to the lower overall rating. As it warmed the flavors seemed to jump out of the glass and get even more prominent. I love how they went "off the beaten path" and completely out of the norm for the style with the flavors for this one. Bonus points in my book for that.

A - Pours a slightly hazy ruby-orange with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades at a normal pace leaving behind some light lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel malts, dark fruits, Belgian yeast, berries, jam, honey, and a touch of spices.

T - Starts off with a mix of sweet caramel malts with dark fruits, berries, and some light spices. Through the middle, some honey comes through with some more fruity jam, some Belgian yeast, and some more berry fruits. The finish is a mix of berries, caramel malts, Belgian yeast, honey, jam, and some spices.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and fruity finish.

D - Very drinkable. Lots of fruity flavors and honey, but the balance and complexity is spot on.

Got this from Mikesgroove, cheers Mike!

Pours a ruddy brown with a finger of tan head, clears up considerably after a few minutes. Some head retention & lacing

S: Much jammyness, some brown bread notes, sour & berry notes as this warms

T: Jammy apricot & pear notes along with dryness & a touch of tartness & oakyness up front. Green apple skin, tart raspberry & leafy hops as this warms, along with some persimmon, figs & apricot sweetness & just a touch of funk. Finishes dry & tart with some earthy & jammy fruit notes

MF: Light/medium bodied, over carbonated at first, this smooths out after few minutes

I didn't like this at first, but after a while this really opened up

This pours a hazy orange with a nice head on it. Smells fruity and lemony with some spicing going on. The taste has lavender, lemons, and herbal spices; there is also some nice wheat malt integrated into the profile. It tastes like a spiced lotion / potpurri. Creamy and smooth body and goes down nicely. Solid wheat ale, very floral and wheaty.
