This is the first German style beer to come out of the Captain's dry dock and it is superb. A honey gold with a white head and goodly amount of lace. A light amount of chill haze as my fridge is on the colder side but it was quite clear when I had it at the brewery. Gentle carbonation appears with each sip.
Smell is full of light sweet malt with a peppery spiciness and a touch of sweetgrass. There is a faint banana like fruitiness mixed with a grapeish overtone and a lemony flourish. Floral hops. A bready malt core underpins it all. Beautifully constructed.
Taste is much like the nose with a larger breadiness and a perfect balance of hop bitterness. The fruitiness is brighter with a bigger lemon edge and grape like sweetness picking up as the malt sugar fades. Finish is dry and clean with a citrusy hop presence and a lingering taste of crackers.
Feel is crisply carbonated with a light creaminess as it site on the tongue. Light in weight but not too light.
Drinkability is first rate. Refreshing and quite the quaffer. This is a top notch session beer and one I hope to see at the Captain often.

Appearance: Crystal clear, pale yellow with great lacing
Smell: Very interesting. Can't put my finger on whether it is a spicy, citrusy, or hoppy aroma, but I like it
Taste: Nice. Not as good as the Oberon I just reviewed, but another good summer beer (that I wouldn't want come November)
Mouthfeel: Great. After swallowing, my tongue feels happy. No lingering aftertaste
Overall: Good summer beer. No need to rush out and buy more right away, nor does it being me back to several fun nights I spent in Cologne Germany drinking kolsch, but a nice beer
Serving type: bottle
