Brewed for and named after the newest Vaccarro, baby Drew. I've been told that this is made from a base of the Extra Gold and doused with the Kolsch yeast. The guys behind the counter at the brewery also said its something between the pale ale and the DIPA...so who knows..might have to change the style when I get more info/insight.

Anyway, this winner pours pale golden, lightly hazed, delicate, tiny bubble head, that stays for a spell, goes to a super fine bubble film and then extensive sheeting and lace. Classy looking creation.

Mild nose of honey, earthy hops

This is a super tasty and complex brew, full of intrigue and nuance. Phenolic yeastyness...hoppy goodness...dry hopped with amarillo and simcoe...a hint of juniper, gin and soft alcohol...and a long smooth hoppy and super tasty finish...well done...I hope and yes actually pray this is not a one off, hopefully its a regular addition to the the CL line...congratulations and well done...

A - Golden in color, thin white clingy foam that laces the glass. Small bubbles of carbonation rising to the surface.

S - Smells of grapefruit. Some light floral scent of fresh hops. Its subtlety is actually the best part; not overpowering, but very inviting. The slight kick of fresh pine is the clincher.

T - Love the citrus taste in this one. Seet of fresh grapefruit. The bitterness of hops is gentle. Just enough bitterness on the tongue.

M - Very drinkable. I will finish this growler watching the fottball games. Feels light (extremely so for the ABV). Just a bit raspy at the end.

O - Just really liking this. A drinkable IPA that has all the things I like. I hope this is available again. I salute the Captain!

16oz. growler from Decicco's. Poured into a Southampton oversize snifter.

Pours a thin, coarse, white layer of head that dissipates very quickly. No lacing. Beer is a clear, pale orange. Just below average because of the lack of head and lacing in a style known for these qualities.

Nose is resin, lemon rind, citrus, and hop bitterness. Quite robust with a nice liveliness. Decent.

Beer opens resin and lemon rind hop bitterness. Some tea coarseness towards the middle. Papaya. A very deep hop presence. Finishes bitter tea with the same aftertaste. Pretty pedestrian.

Light bodied with low to moderate carbonation. Smooth in the mouth and goes down easy. Finishes messy with a lingering aftertaste. Average.

Congrats and cheers to Scott for the birth of his son Drew! I raise this one to the Captain!

Had a Chimay chalice at MexQ in Astoria. I like the Capt Lawrence Kolsch and their Imperial IPA, but this wasn't quite as good as either. It actually reminds me of an oatmeal IPA from Rock Bottom-Minneapolis for the added creamy layer. That said, it could also be a double cream ale with extra hops. That said, the citrus punch isn't as big as a great IPA. The malts are a little bigger too, with a caramel barley character. There are tasty elements here, but it comes off messy, they don't necessarily complement each other. Interesting though.

On tap at TJ Finley's

Pours a slightly hazy straw color with honey highlights. It has a pure white creamy head.

Nice citrus aroma with orange and grapefruit. The malt has a honey scent. Not super strong.

The taste is sweet. Orange and grapefruit hops provide a nice hop profile not very bitter. Citra hops? The malt is light and sweet with some honey flavors.

Moderate feel with semi soft carbonation. Sweet on the palate with a light bitter offset. Very drinkable.

A good not great dipa. Drinks very well. Could use a stronger hop profile.

Tasted in Pleasantville and picked up a few growlers.

Counter guy says the recipe was an accident - tasted great - so it'll be around.

Listed on the wall as a Kolsch style - a better balance than the Family Meal Kolsch also on tap.

Pours a nice honey color with a solid head.

Hoppy smell, with a lot of body and modest spices.

Have a hard time putting it down - a very solid brew - hope to see it commercialized.

I had out of a growler from the brewery. It has a clear gold color and there is some head and lacing. Very light hoppy scent.

This is a nice, floral India pale ale. Light in flavor, but nice. The hoppy bite is also mild. Nice and mellow brew. If you want a powerful, flavorful IPA then this is not your choice. But if you want a mild, refreshing AIPA, this will do the job.

On draft at The Black Sheep, Mineola, NY.

Poured a hazy dark straw hue with a one finger creamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a buttery yeast together with a light grassy hop.

The taste was likewise yeasty with a touch of soft caramel and drying hop spice.

The mouthfeel was a touch chewy.

Overall a decent wheat driven hoppy ale.

I had a draft of this at Rattle and Hum Bar in Manhattan. I don't think I'd ever hand an IPA from Captain Lawrence but I love their pale ale and their double IPA. The IPA did not disappoint and was pretty in line with an excellent east coast version of the style.

Appearance was a light copper with a good amount of carbonation that stuck around for a while. Somewhat clear for an IPA.

Aroma was very piney and really hits you in the face. Very typical for an east coast version.

Flavor as well was very true to style. Great bitterness upfront with a flowery, piney finish. Very refreshing.

Overall this is a great beer and I hope they continue to make it and/or introduce a regular single ipa.

Pours a golden yellowish-orange color with a half finger white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Not much in the way of lacing.

Earthy hop aroma with hints of grass and pine along with subtle spice and sweet citrus. Some lemon and orange rind along with pale malt presence.

Lighter bodied than expected with a balance of earthy and sweet hop notes countered by a subtle pale malt presence. Spicy hop bite up front with some pine needle and grass flavor followed by some citrus rind and biscuit. Dry finish. Decent but nothing out of the ordinary.

growler from the brewery

Pours a hazed golden color with some bright yellow hues. Crop of white head rests on top, retaining for a while and leaving patchy lacing on the glass.

Nice burst of juicy hops in the nose with citrus peel and hints of spiciness. Orange and lemon with grapefruit. Touches of malty sweetness as well.

Bitter and juicy up front with some resin stickiness. Grapefruit with lemon peel and some hoppy spice. A little sweet with a decent malt backbone. Touches of breadiness and caramel with a slight buttery note. Finishes sticky and bitter with a slight warmth.

Medium body, decent carbonation, sticky and a little creamy on the tongue. Pretty solid balance of malt and hops, another nice beer from the Captain.

Thanks ineedabeerhere!

Pours a light golden yellow. Huge white frothing head. At first whiff, I would not necessarily have guessed IPA. I think I probably would have thought some sort of hopped pilsener hybrid, as it is surprisingly earthy with bits of lemon and orange rind, and a strangely loam-y floral zest.

The taste is similar unique in profile. I can't think of too many IPAs that made me think of earthy lemon with orange zest, but this one does. It has a biting bitter aftertaste that at first is pleasant, but grows somewhat wearisome. Perhaps a growler to myself was a bit much.

Lively mouthfeel. I would say this beer is more notable for its uniqueness than for it's excellence, but was happy to get a chance to try it.
