Beer pours an opaque black with a little tan head that dissipates, but leaves enough lacing to make a pretty little pattern on the glass...

Nose is primarily coffee grounds... like an old sweater that keeps getting warmer with age. There's a little caramel malt and dry cocoa.

The taste is mostly the same, primarily drip coffee and cocoa.

It's kind of like drinking a cold cup of black coffee, but a little sweeter and more... beer-lier. That doesn't sound that appetizing, but it is delicious. Get it.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma has some chocolate and coffee notes, but is a little bit faint overall. The flavor is a mix of dark fruit and coffee. I get a lot of cherry and prune, with a good bit of dry coffee and chocolate notes. The coffee and chocolate is fairly well done, but both are a bit restrained in my opinion. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Appears pitch black, light caramel tan head, aromas is crazy, there is dark chocolate with big robust coffee singing out with hints of vine ripened fruit. Hints of dark cocoa and molasses round out the sweeter decadent aspects of this beer, strong espresso dark coffee roasts. Flavor is layered with creamed coffee, dark nutty roasted malts, caramelized sugars and again a strong molasses presence. The coffee flavors are in line with some of the better coffee beers available, the booze is well hidden and the beer definitely packs a punch. The mouthfeel is medium to full carbonation is flowing nicely a smooth robust finish on this big beer from Idaho, I would definitely pick this up again.

22 oz bottle served in a Porter Bar goblet. No date found.

A: Pours very dark brown, coffee colored, with a small tan head that quickly reduces to a thin partial coat. Decent lacing.

S: Aromas of sweet and dark roasted grains and coffee dominate. Some fruit and alcohol esters.

Flavor: Sweet and chocolate malts with a solid dark roasted grain taste yet minimal burnt elements. A mildly bitter finish with both roasted malts and coffee. Hints of smoke and fruit.

M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation and very smooth.

O: A good coffee porter but neither the porter base nor the coffee are exceptional.

20oz pint (wow) at the Underground - Big Rock glass represent!

This beer appears a clear, very dark brown, verging on black, with rather pervasive red cola highlights, and a thin cap of bubbly, fizzy beige head, which leaves some decent loosely webbed lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of edgy black coffee grounds, bittersweet chocolate, roasted caramel malt, subtle anise notes, and leafy, earthy hops. The taste is semi-sweet toasted bready caramel malt, fairly sugared mocha, slightly acrid black licorice, a hint of wet stone, and earthy, weedy hops.

The bubbles are pretty sedate, just a wee twinge here and there, the body a sturdy medium weight, and as smooth as a percolating morass of coffee will get you. It finishes on the sweet side, the caramel malt going all clammy, while the coffee submits to its milky side, and the earthiness of the hops toys with the burgeoning booze.

A decent enough coffee porter, the cafe essences, chocolate, and somewhat sour lactic character duly coming through. What doesn't, however, is the apparently big ABV, one not listed here, as the Laughing Dog tap takeover has failed to make it to this bar's tap lists or bartenders' current canon. That, and at $10+ for the glass, it's hardly worth it around here.

Great appearance, big bubbly head on dark body, with some reddish highlights. Lacey. Smooth mouthfeel. Some horse on grass in the residue. Coffee but not all coffee, or acidic. Vanilla and chocolate. Some sourness. Decent drinkability. From Champane's Cellars.

Date of 5/24/12

Pours ebony with 3 fingers of mocha head. Stellar lacing & good head retention

S: Coffee & cocoa

T: Coffee & dryness up front, a touch of roastyness, minty hops & dark chococlate up front. Roastyness & a touch chicory as this warms, a touch of boozey warmth. Finishes roasty, with woody dryness, plus some nice chocolate notes

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, becomes somewhat creamy as it warms

A super solid coffee porter, glad I got to try this
