Like a previous reviewer said the crowd at Mellow Mushroom is defined by the 20 something college crowd due to the fact it is very close to LSU. There are various nights that draw the college crowd in such as karaoke and trivia night. All of these things are fun, but it doesn't have a vibe to it that is conducive to a BA. Their beer selection is modest and nothing of real importance is on the menu. They really don't have that big of a claim to being a beer bar or even for that matter a place where you can find better beer. I know more people that go to Mellow for their shroom tea and pizza more than anything else. They do have a fairly good selection of Abita beers and have andygator on tap which is awesome. Overall the pizza is good and I will be back, but not for their beer selection

The atmosphere at this Mellow Mushroom location definately reflects its proximity to LSU, one of the largest state universities in the country. A lively crowd of twenty-somethings can be found here most nights, as well as about thirteen beers on tap including Hoegaarden, about three Abita taps, and an unnamed lambic (I didn't get it as it was 8.00). There is also a fullsize freezer case full of assorted bottles. The decor does not significantly depart from the other locations' funky, 60's influenced, hippie motif. There is a wide array of psychodelic and screen-printed concert posters on the walls by some of the best-known poster artists in the US. Live music is often there, and it is loud. If you're looking for a quiet pint, this is probably not your place.

The food is very good, but hardly on the light side. As the name suggests, they do seem to have a special touch with a mushroom pizza. Even if you are just there for a drink, the made-to-order pretzels will go great with any beer. Our server was really wonderful. She happily rattled off the entire beer list more than once, split tickets without being asked, and somehow managed to keep everything straight even with a 2 for 1 beer special running.

My Hoegaarden came with an orange slice, we were informed there was a "lamb-bick" on tap, and one of the pints seemed a bit flat for draft. These are indications that the place isn't exactly being run by aficianados, but really they are forgivable sins when you consider this kind of selection is unheard of for a bar in Louisiana and the price is right.
