A: very nice dark golden color

S: hops to the brain. nice smell for an IPA

T: I'd like more bite from the hops

M: Head retained well and laced nicely. I enjoyed swigs and sips with this beer

O: A decent high grav IPA for any night. More kick expected but it would be a nice IPA for the daily indulger

Hoppy IPA DAY! I started the day with Hoptimum by Sierra Nevada (which is effing amazing). This is my second. I hope to knock off a couple more... probably at least Smuttynose since I know it is very good.

I poured this into a DFH, chalice style glass. Looks like the typical orangy IPA with about two fingers of sticky head. This leads to some decent lacing.

I get a bunch of flowers from the top. I was surprised by the lack of citrus.

Flavor was pretty good. I like the fix of hops and decent hopping. It has good balance.

I would say that this is a pretty good IPA. It is a nice departure from those citrus bombs. I recommend trying this out to mix it up.

Pours a slightly hazy golden apricot color with minimal ivory head that leaves substantial lacing as it dissipates into a thin layer of film.

Aroma is resiny, with a fairly bready malt aroma, ending with pine and a hint of citrus.

Flavor is far more brutally hoppy. Resin and pine hit early, carrying strongly into a significantly bitter finish. Undertones of grapefruit pith and perfumey hops add complexity. Tastes like biting on a pine tree at some points. A minty note pervades as it warms. Malt character is definitely an afterthought.

Body is a touch watery, with moderate carbonation, and a bit of hop derived astringency is present at the finish.

Overall, far hoppier in flavor than aroma. Substantial bitterness and hop presence, though bittering hops definitely dominate. More flavoring hops would improve the experience.

I had three or four samples of Boulder's Mojo IPA at a beer festival in Frankenmuth. I always thought about picking up one of these but never got around to it so when I saw it was on tap at the beer festival I thought I should give it a chance, so lets see how it goes. Poured on tap into a 4oz plastic boot.

A- I like the label on this beer, it looks nice. It a poured a golden yellow color that took on an orange tint when held to the light, it had one fingers worth of slightly off white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end. The beer didn't look to bad.

S- The first thing that I pick up is a slightly stale malt aroma that has a medium amount of sweetness and imparts some bready and grainy aromas. Up next comes the hops that seem to be floral and citrusy with the citrus seeming to stick out the most with some pineapple aromas and a slight pine aroma towards the end. The aroma was good, I liked the citrus hop aromas.

T- The taste seems is a little similar to the aroma. It starts off with some grainy and bready malts with a medium amount of sweetness, they have a stale flavor that is a little off putting. The hops aren't as citrusy as they were in the aroma and impart a king of weird pine and floral taste. It had a light amount of medium bitterness, with a grainy and slightly floral aftertaste. This was a pretty average tasting American IPA.

M- Not that smooth, slightly creamy, medium bodied, with a medium amount of carbonation, the mouthfeel seemed to be pretty average.

Overall I wasn't impressed with this beer and I thought that it was a pretty average example of an American IPA, the beer just didn't come together as well as it should have. This beer doesn't have the best drinkability, it isn't too smooth and the flavors don't hold my interest. What I liked most about this beer was the aroma, it had some nice hoppy citrus aspects to it and it also didn't look that bad. What I liked the least about the beer was the bland malt base and the weird hop profile in the flavor, it just didn't work for me. I wouldn't buy this beer again and this isn't an IPA that I would recommend to anybody I liked. This was my first beer from this brewery and it didn't make for the best first impression, all in all just an average American IPA that isn't memerable, I hope the Mojo Risin is much better since I already bought a bottle of it.

A: The beer is relatively clear yellowish amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high dense off white head that died down but consistently left a thin head covering the surface and lots of lacy rings of bubbles down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of citrus hops in the nose along with notes of pine resin and pineapples.
T: The taste has flavors of citrus hops intermixed with some notes of pine resin hops. There is a moderate to strong amount of bitterness, which particularly stands out and lingers through the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very crisp on the palate with a moderate to high amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA delivers a nice punch of hops and bitterness but is well-balanced in that the hops are not overpowering. It also hides its alcohol very well, making it not too difficult to drink.

Poured into a balloon glass. The beer is your typical slightly hazy off-orange color. A light cream colored head dissipates to some big bubbles in the center and a fine "mist." Pretty good sticky lacing, randomly. The aroma is a combo punch of grapefruit rind and fresh pine. The taste follows the smell -- lots of fresh pine and grapefruit rind up front. It finishes dry and clean, leaving a bitter reminder of how much of an IPA this is. The mouthfeel is dry and perhaps carbonated somewhat.

Overall, really impressed with this IPA. It's straight forward, pulling no punches: you get loads of citrus, pine, and hops. Quite good, and the 7.2% ABV is hardly noticeable.

This is probably the best $ value IPA on the market. It has the the hops content and lingering mouth feel we all want, but is not overpowering on the palate or the wallet.
appearance --> love that lacing!
smell --> makes me want to drink it fast
taste --> makes me want to drink it slow, and enjoy it
mouthfeel --> like beer should be... absolute pleasure
overall --> When I can find it, this IPA is in my fridge. There seems to be a supply issue.

Appearance: Pours a hazy orangish-yellow with a small head that dissapears quickly. There is some lacing before the head leaves. The carbonation looks alright.

Smell: VERY nice floral and fruity/citrus hops.

Taste: Exactly like the smell but much more intense.

Mouthfeel: Light body, watery.

This will definitely cure an ipa craving. One or two is awesome but it's definitely not a session beer. It could get old quick after a couple.

A - pours a dark, hazy orangish amber with a soft 1/2" cap of dense, white, cloud-like foamy

S - bread, faint grain husks, citrus

T - bread, pineapple, grapefruit, sugar, pine, faint earthy bitter finish

M - crisp, warm, smooth, medium bodied

This is a decent IPA. It as a solid flavor and a great, drinkable, body. It's all around a balanced beer. It's definitely worth a try.

A-Pours an illuminated orange color. Body is hazy. Head is full-figured. Head retains very well and laces just the same.

S-The smell is very subdued. There is some citrus and grain. Grassy and breaded as well. The nose is in some aspects very nice but it is very mellow and there is a metallic twang hovering around too.

T-The flavor is no better. The proper components are there but they are tainted by an off-putting copper flavor. Also, the flavors are far too underwhelming in terms of intensity.

M-Lighter than the ABV would suggest. Bubbly enough. Decent feel.

O/D-Overall, I was not happy with this brew. A subpar IPA in my opinion. Perhaps something was amiss.

A - Pours a deep gold with a thick foamy head that leaves an insane amount of lacing on the glass. Good so far!

S - Not picking up on a lot of hops. Lots of citrus and some butter cookie, almost like a rum scent. Pleasant, but doesn't scream IPA.

T - NOW THIS IS AN IPA! The hops hops hops! Delicious balance between sweet and bitter. The hops come rushing in like a tsunami with a citrus punch that's buttery smooth. The assault on my taste buds is followed by a deep cookie flavor, yellow cake taste and more hops, and finally waves goodbye with yet another blast of hops and a twinkie sweetness. Perfection.

M - Silky smooth, like swishing velvet about in my mouth. Foamy creamy and smooth, the way it should be. No wateriness or greasiness, just smooth cold deliciousness.

O - I've had my fair share of IPAs (another of my favorite style) in my time, and I must say that none of them have had as profound an effect on me as Mojo. The appearance, the taste, the feel, the soul of this beer is perfect. A class act of a beer and one that I recommend you try as soon as possible!

12 oz bottle, best enjoyed by date of 6/12/2012 purchased at Publix (which suprised me with their selection of craft beers; cheers to Publix).

A: Somewhat cloudy copper, about 1 - 1/2 finger head. Good retention and lacing.

S: Citrus, pine, some floral notes

T: First you taste the citrusy sweetness and malt, shortly followed by the earthy hop bitterness that lingers between sips. Not overly bitter, but a very appealing flavor.

M: A little on the light side with good carbination.

O: I really like this beer. I am an admitted hop head and something about the finish of this beer keeps me wanting more. It's a shame I've already drank through six of these. Bravo, and hopefully an encore soon. Great session beer if someone else has your car keys. This goes down very easy for a 7.2 abv.

12oz bottle served in a standard pint glass.

pours a light orange/copper tone with about an inch and a half of white/off-white head; moderate retention and lacing.

aroma offers notably pine and citrusy (on the latter count, primarily grapefruit). there's a malty presence as well. taste mosty follows the nose, perhaps a floral note or two... hops are nicely balanced by the malt. a tasty, mid-range IPA - nothing spectacular but enjoyable. mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average cabronation. i would see nothing wrong with having a couple at a sitting... that is, of course, assuming i was out of better options.

A - straw yellow, fair sized pale head. Pretty standard for an IPA, nothing special here.

S - Orange, citrus, pineapple, and some grapefruit up front. Followed by some smooth malts.

T - Sweet citrus, more sweet than usual, as if they are coated in sugar. Some caramel malts tie everything together. Not bad, just a bit on the sweet side for an IPA.

M - Medium body, smooth and creamy. Leaves a nice bitter taste behind after some nice floral notes. Enjoyable for a sweet IPA.

O - A sweet citrus IPA that I will probably not pursue in the future. Not bad, but definitely not the hops I am looking for nowadays in an IPA.

Had on tap in a pint glass- pours a slightly hazy golden/copper color with a one finger head, little retention and some nice lacing.

Smells hoppy in the citrus fashion- nothing outrageous but not bad.

Taste is consistent- good bitterness, a little pale malt, a little floral hop taste towards the end. Pretty well rounded.

Mouthfeel is a tad bit watery- medium light body, moderate carbonation. A pretty decent IPA but nothing special.

Got a sample pack of Boulder at the beer shop. This was the first one I tried out and its a pretty good. The head died pretty quickly which i wasn't a fan of. It did leave some decent lacing down the sides. This one also has a great malt flavor to it, sweet with some light notes of caramel in there. The hops are nicely balanced and give this one a nice citrus flavor. I think i'm going to have to get some more of this as a nice summer sipper.

Poured from a 12oz bottle (Enjoy By Date: Jun 05 2012) into a 13.5oz Libbey Tulip glass.

A- Pours an inviting crystal clear, yellow-golden with a full 3-finger, soapy white head possessing great retention. Substantial lacing is left behind when consumed.

S- Orange, white grapefruit rind, slight pine resin and (despite the not-overwhelming 7.2% ABV) a touch of alcohol is detected. As the head subsides, notes of pineapple reveal themselves. Pretty complex...

T- Sugar coated citrus is immediate which tails off into a dry, but pleasant white grapefruit finish. Nothing overwhelming, but just enough bitterness to beg another taste. As the brew warms, I do a get a hint of piney resin.

M- Ale yeast provides the backbone for a beautiful head and decent carbonation. Smooth and predictable mouthfeel for the style.

O- A really solid, highly drinkable West Coast-style, American IPA and one that I can enjoy again and again. I'll have to up the ante and try Mojo Risin' the next time 'round. If you can get it fresh, however, do yourself a favor and grab a 6'r of Mojo IPA.

I figured I would add a cask review of this beer since I don't see this around too much.

Mojo ipa. Nitro. Lace all the way. Very nice head and retention.

Creamy but hop resiny. Smooth. Pine and floral. Very similar to the regular version but the mouthfeel was much different. It was also sereved at cask temp allowing other flavor profiles to show.

Overall, a unique ipa. I dig it. It drinks quick and is enjoyable.

A: Very clear, golden honey color, off-white head, soapy lacing

S: strong citrus grapefruit hops smell, an earthy smell as well, slight caramel malt aromas as well

T: nice blend of caramel malt and citrus hops that turns bitter as it finishes, it pretty much follows the nose with the grapefruit and earthiness. very tasty

M: very smooth and creamy and it leaves a dry mouth feel and a bittersweet aftertaste. medium-light bodied, well carbonated

O: very good IPA, perhaps a tad too bitter to be one of my favorites but it definitely doesn't take away from this beer. If I found this on tap somewhere I would definitely order it.

12 oz bottle from mix pack, 2 months from drink by date, guessing that makes it 4 months old, not ideal not terrible though.

A: Somewhere between an amber and yellow, "west coast" ipa in color. Pours a small white head, dissipated pretty quickly, with a some lacing but not very much.

S: Not overwhelming, citrus based hops, quite sweet in flavor, sour orange, not much maltiness, smells good though.

T: Hops right up front, initially an earthy/grassy/marijuana flavor of hops, then a very sweet citrus, more pineapple than grapefruit, not overly bitterr. For color has a nice malt backbone, wasnt expecting this, not overly dark but a nice molasses/rasin bread flavor.

M: A tad thin, decent to low carbonation, had a oily slick to it though, tasted more like a 6.5% than 7.2% (not necessarily good or bad, flavor wasnt overwhelming) One of the more session-able ipas.

O: Solid brew from Boulder, i recall it being much hoppier when fresher. Nothing crazy but its a good brew from a good value brewery. You defnitely get your moneys worth and wont be disappointing.

Boulder Mojo IPA: Had this one on tap at a restaurant. Not my preferred way to review a beer, but here goes. Nice amber color with a finger of white foamy head. Good aroma comes through with floral hop notes. Taste is nice and even. The malt is not too sweet, the hops come through in a good way and finish with a touch of bitter. This is a good middle of the road IPA that most should like.

Color of the body is incredibly weak! Great foamy head though. What little body it does have is a clear peach coloring. Smell is tangy, resiny, sticky sweet grapefruit. The smell is superb! It is as fresh as it gets and it stacks up to top notch IPA's. Taste is well rounded. Has a really nice and clean bitterness. Tangy sweet caramel grapefruit and a heavy dose of bitterness. Just a tad too sweet but not enough to make it not great. Very glad to have found this fresh finally and worthy of rotation. I think it has a stigma just because the brewery is perceived as sub par but don't let that discourage you.

Poured from their 12oz beer bottle -

Appearance - Poured almost 2 fingers of tight bright white head, color of the beer is a slightly hazy yellow amber color, very nice lacing.

Smell - Big citrus scent, grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple, touch of pine.

Taste - Wow, really bright citrus flavors here. Ripe yellow grapefruits, some tangerine and grapefruit peel, floral hops, dry slightly sweet biscuits in the background. Not a lot of complexity but some great balance here. Some pine comes long into the finish.

Mouthfeel - Lite mouthfeel, medium carb, this beer is very crisp with carb providing a light, bright feel, and some edges on the sides of the tongue.

Overall - A solid, citrus forward ipa. There is just enough sweetness to offset the citrus peel flavors but this really is not a sweet ipa at all. This beer both looks and tastes bright and citrussy, with plenty of bittering and dryness in the finish, almost puckering. This would be a great summer thirst quencher.
