More of a weak copper color. Pretty in a glass and accented by weak white foam around the edge.

This is hoppy. But it is over on the other side. The side I don't appreciate. The grassy...piney...woods sides.
I do get a little citrus in the finish. Not enough sweetness or something...the balance isn't right for me.

I love the mouthfeel.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 7/28/2014. Pours crystal clear bright orange color with a 2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity of citrus hops and moderate malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of juicy hop flavors and moderate malt sweetness; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and fairly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good IPA. Good complexity of juicy hop flavors and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

With my high regard of Mojo IPA, I take a walk into its stronger version. 10% ABV? You got it. On to the beer:

Beautiful to look at. Two finger's thickness of airy head and a crisp clean copper body in a chalice are stunning to look at. The lacing is excellent too. Now to stop and smell the roses...ok, I taking my expectations down a few notches. There are subtle notes of orange and tangerine, but the nose is erratic. Mixed in are lawn clippings, weed killer, and leaves. I'm not sure if I'm smelling Double IPA or gardening work.

it tastes strong, but the flavor itself doesn't pull its weight. There's a strong sense of alcohol tasted first, though it isn't obvious and is disguised with a little citrus. Add in some burnt plants, astringency, a bitterness that not only is quite strong, but sticks around in the aftertaste. Despite some flaws, the beer itself is slowly but surely consumed, as neither flaws become strenuous to overcome. It's a big bodied beer, with solvent alcohol hitting and cutting into the modest carbonation.

If a regular IPA is tasty, then its stronger double version must be even more tasty. The beer taster's fallacy has struck again.

Grabbed this on a whim with no knowledge of its quality. No date on bottle but I get a feeling its not the freshest bottle I've ever bought. This ale pours a deep red mahogany color with almost no head and very little lacing. This does not look like a dipa. There is an unappetizing over abundance of sediment in this beer. I love unfiltered and bottle conditioned beers but this is utterly ridiculous. Literally chunks of stuff bigger than the end of one of my fingers floating around the beer. It's a definite turn off. The aroma is all malt; buttery, vanilla-y, sweet, and rich. This does not smell like a Dipa. The mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. This does not feel like a dipa. The flavor is very malty; follows the nose with caramel and butter notes. It reminds me of oak aged offerings. There is a little hop bitterness in the taste but it is quickly overtaken again by the malt. There is also a substantial alcohol bite but it is smooth and warming and enjoyable. This does not taste like a dipa. Overall, this one seems far closer to a barleywine or a strong ale than a dipa. I don't know if it is the age or the intention but it is definitely not hoppy or bitter by any means. I'd actually probably rate this higher if it was labeled as one of those and if it wasn't for the completely off putting appearance.
