I was very pleasantly surprised by this beer. I have enjoyed everything by Boulder that I've had, but I typically don't care much for English "inspired" American beers. This one was great, however.
The beer looks great. Light golden with a slight ruby hue. Has a light cloudy haze, but mostly clear. A good amount of tight-knit fluffy white head with good retention and lacing. Carbonation is apparent, but not over the top.
The smell is good. Definitely has that toasted biscuit, nutty, caramelized English malt flavor, but the hops smell distinctly American. Quite well balanced between malt and hops. Usually with such fruity, floral hops aromas the malt tends to take backseat. By that same token, many English inspired American beers tend to over-emphasize the malt, but this beer really does a great job at achieving a happy medium.
The taste is every bit as good as I was expecting from the nose, and better yet. The toasted caramel and nutty maltiness hit up front, followed by a slight bitterness with a very smooth floral and fruity hops flavor. Still a great balance. Very refreshing.
The mouthfeel is a bit thin with a fairly sharp hit of carbonation. The body isn't as syrupy as many English inspired beers often tend to be. Very easy to drink.
One thing I would have liked to see is maybe a little more of a spicy, grassy hop flavor with a slightly lighter bitterness for more of an English style. On the other hand, I really liked this beer as it was, so why fix what isn't broken? Final verdict: Hazed & Infused with English malts.

03/04/14 On tap. Very nice stuff. This shows how a well behaved member of the hop family of brews can please and I am very pleased. Wonderful balance. Smells hoppier than it tastes. Good cold. Doesn't look like I'll get try it at room temp. At 6.5% this should be monitored carefully as it very deceptive & delicious.
***Note: Not sure why I dis'sed the nitro experience last year (see below). It may be that the nitro addition of more fizz let the temperature raise & open up too much hoppiness. Note the mention of "good cold". I tend to forgive the author as he's usually drinking on the job. Jul'14
08/20/13 On nitro tap. Let me start by saying that I'm not a hops fan, but this is beer reinforce that. This is the first time I've ever truly regret not having had a taste first. I've spent the money & will drink it down, as not to fret the bar, but this should have a warning label. IMO this is way off base & I see the Rate Beer give it an 88 rating? A jaundiced view, no doubt.
