I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Clear amber color with a fingers worth of lingering head. Fair amount of patchy lacing.

Smell- Wheat malt aroma.

Taste- Wheat malt flavor with a light blueberry flavor.

Mouthfeel- On the light end of medium bodied. Smooth with a n average amount of carbonation.

Overall- A decent, simple beer and a thirst quencher. While it is not the best blueberry beer that I've tried, it is not the worst. (449 characters)

Surprising copper color. Small frothy head disappears quickly.

Smells a little of bready malt, a touch of esters and a little danky straw. No blueberries.

Tastes a little like slightly sweet bready malt and some dank, muted wheat flavor. No blueberries.

Light bodied, a little bit "wet". Whatever kind of mouthfeel the contribution of blueberries might make... it ain't there.

A non-descript American Wheat Ale. Maybe they should make one with blueberries someday... (470 characters)

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Well, at least it's only kinda depressed, 'cause dangerous tidings can otherwise result... Anyway, on a more positive note, beer is at hand, and it pours a clear sunrise amber topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises buttery biscuit, plastic-y blueberry syrup, and some light perfume. The taste brings in more of the same, though with more butter than berry and a light vein of banana running through the background. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a thin feel. Overall, a fairly sad little fruit beer, another morsel of proof that it's really hard to make a truly good blueberry beer. (669 characters)

Kinda ok. Pours with a finger and half head. Amber pale color. Transparent. A lot of bubbles rising throughout the glass.

Smell : Some faint blueberry, wheat, malty and fruity. Pretty average nose.

Taste: Very much similar to the nose. Doesn't really feel like the right kind of beer. I mean it tastes somewhat fruity and fuzzy due to high carbonation. Tastes a lot like Oktoberfest/marzen.

Light mouth feel. Easy to drink only if you like it.

I certainly won't buy it or even drink it next time. There are better beers to be savored than this. (550 characters)

Nose -sour blueberry, subtle sweetness
Taste - refreshing overall, not heavy. Light tasting front with with a little sour light subtle blueberry flavor on the back (similar to the nose)
Look - light to medium colored, no real head,
Mouthfeel - little effervescent on the front (too much for my preference), average feel to watery otherwise (339 characters)

12 oz bottle dated 27 July 2012, so a little past date but no signs of spoilage.

A: Pours a clear, amber-copper color with a small, dingy white head. Plenty of visible carbonation, both fine and coarse. The head settles quickly to a ring and partial top coat that endure and leave patches of lacing on the glass.

S & T: vague fruity aroma [3.25] I probably would not have identified as blueberry in a blind test. This fruitiness is mixed with some wheat, caramel and what smells like winter squash. The flavor is clearly blueberry and toasted grains. Overall, bitter and sweet are more or less in balance.

M: A little over-carbonated and too sharp; light bodied; slightly dry finish.

O: A rather mediocre blueberry wheat, with limited blueberry flavor and rather aggressive carbonation. In comparison to others, however, this one avoids an overdose of blueberry flavor and the more common problem of being overly sweet. [3.25] (933 characters)

A: Hazy golden color. Very little head, doesn’t stay around long.

S: You get a little hint of wheat and a lot of blueberry, but seems artificial.

T: Wheat jumps out with a blueberry kick. Very strong fruity after taste, but feels stale or bland.

M: Goes down smooth, average carbonation. The after taste seems a little dry.

O: Not a bad beer. I’m glad I tried it but I don’t think I would get it again. Would like to give it a try on tap, but I didn’t see much in this beer. (488 characters)

A - Thin white head with a nice dark gold look.

S - A bready malty beer with a lot of blueberries.

T - Very spicy with hops for a beer with so many malts. No bread like in the smell. Blueberry Budweiser...

M - Light bodied with a nice fruity finish with a bitter aftertaste. Very carbonated.

O - This beer is not bad, but you have to like blueberries. It reminded me a lot of Budweiser because of the similar hop spice and odd aftertaste. (443 characters)

It poured a light bronze color, similar to apple juice, with a small head.

The smell and taste are very pleasant with a mild hint of blueberry; a very easy to drink beer.

The texture is average; once it's swallowed it's gone.

Overall a good beer that has the potential to satisfy the most serious of beer drinkers. (317 characters)

A - Poured with two fingers of off-white foam on top of a clear, dark copper colored body. The head settles at a moderate pace and leaves nice lace on the glass.

S - Bready wheat notes, some caramel, and a hint of fruity character.

T - Spicy wheat notes up front with a touch of vanilla. Some light fruitiness comes out in the middle with some caramel. Finishes with more thick wheat, light blueberry, and a hint of herbal hops.

M - Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation, and a lightly sweet finish

D - Well, it is a fruity wheat beer but it is much better done than most beers of this type. The fruit is subdued, but it does add something to the character of what would otherwise be a fairly bland beer. (710 characters)

Had on draft.

Arrived with barely a head and a slightly hazy medium gold.

Aroma of sweet grain with blueberries definitely noticeable. No hops of any kind on the nose.

The flavor was quite grainy with a little bit of roast and just a touch of fruitiness. Definitely more berry in the nose than the taste. Body was pretty watery with a sweet finish.

Overall a pretty average beer and far from a great fruit beer. Even with the sweetness it does manage to be a decent thirst quencher. (486 characters)

A nod to the GREAT Miles Davis...

Kinda Blue by Boulder Beer Company pours a reddish-copper color, with a small bubbly white head and very little lacing. Aromas of toast, wheat, blueberries blend wonderfully. The flavors follow the nose quite well, with bready and toasty malt flavors mixing with wheat and grainy flavors with an underlining hint of blueberries throughout. Lighter in carbonation, Kinda Blue is medium in body and extremely drinkable. A GREAT tribute to an improvisational master, and a good brew for a warm spring evening!

Cheers! (550 characters)

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy reddish to yellowish filling. Slight head that disappeared quite quickly.

Smell: Mild wheat, Slight hint of blueberry. Not bad, but just seems to be average.

Taste: Moderate caramel with a nice blueberry hint to it that impressed me a bit. I'm just relieved this wasn't overloaded with a blueberry flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, light on the way down. Easy to sip and sip again

Overall: Very average of a fruit beer and a wheat beer. I did like it, but I guess was expecting something more livelier. I probably will try again and many friends have told me they also enjoyed this brew. Cheers! (638 characters)

a better than average fruit beer, especially in the blueberry category where so many of these are just awful. this one pours a cloudy purpley pink color with a tinted foamy head. smells like a wheat beer, fruity and light. the blueberries add some tartness to the nose. the taste is pretty good, well balanced and not too sweet from the fruit. theres even a fairly crisp finish where some of the hops are picked up and the fruity citric yeast rounds it out well. feel is light and bubbly, perfect for a summer beer, but i think this one is even a bit too light. a fuller body might capture a bit more of the fruit flavor and draw out the experience in a good way. i dont know. overall id prefer this to many other fruity wheat beers, but you probably wont catch me buying it. (775 characters)

Poured into a Magic Hat #9 pint glass. Bottle says enjoy by May 23 2012.

A- Pours a dark amber color with a 3/4 inch head that retains well enough before residing at an 1/8 inch head and has fluffy, sticky lacing.

S- Hearty blueberry that seems to lean towards the maltier side of things. Kind of complex as well with notes of acai and even blackberry.

T- Glassy taste initially turns into a bready aftertaste with barely any blueberry to be found. Many sips later, still no blueberry. Strange how it can be decently pronounced in the aroma but practically nonexistent in the taste. Sweet malt keeps the beer on its feet but just barely.

M- Thin with minimal substance. Medium carbonation and a semi-light body.

O- This one left me scratching my head going "Where's the blueberry?!" Add it to the long list of failed blueberry beers. (838 characters)

A: Crystal clear, orangy-red honey color, foamy white head, soapy lacing.

S: Blueberry, caramel malt, wheat aroma

T: nice blueberry and what flavors are prominent and the malt kind of binds it all together

M: light bodied, smooth, creamy, somewhat sweet aftertaste.

O: good beer, nothing special but it would definitely be good on a nice hot summer day. (357 characters)

12 fl oz brown glass bottle served in a snifter, reviewed live:

A - Pours a nearly transparent, strange copper/brass/amber color with almost no discernible head. A bit odd looking.

S - Light artificial blueberry flavoring, oddly placed cream and stale adjunct. Smells entirely artificial and imbalanced.

T - A watery open bleeds throughout its entirety. Lacks any real wheat character. Heavy doses of caramel and artificial blueberry don't blend well. It's hopped entirely too assertively for a beer of this style, especially a fruit beer. Really just a failure on all counts. Not even built well for a cheap adjunct fruit attempt.

M - watery and thick.

D - I haven't had too many beers from the brewery yet, though I've been disappointed by the ones I have. I certainly wouldn't seek this one out. (806 characters)

22oz bomber.
A) Pours with a big, two finger head. Settles fairly quickly to a big bubble lacing on top. Slight haze in the body. Amber-copper in color.
S) Subtle blueberry. Grainy. Grassy.
T) Light blueberry taste. Wheaty but like a hefeweizen. The overall flavor is weak. In the aftertaste a lingering tartness.
M) Light body. Fizzy.
O) An average brew. I wouldn't consider this again but would drink it in a time of need. (426 characters)

Shared by ihearcraftbeer at a tasting.

A - Clear, not much head, and unfortunately a brassy color (one might expect a purplish color).

S - Not very appealing. A bit skunky and herbal. Not getting blueberry on the nose.

T - Kinda not good tasting. About as eloquent as I can be about this beer... not much blueberry flavor, though an odd sweetness and fake grape juice flavor are there though muddled and intermittent.

M/O - Slick going down and more crisp than I anticipated. While I could see where some might want this as a lighter summer beer, this simply was not my cup o' tea. (585 characters)

THis beer poured out as a copperish color with a thin white head on top. The head fades and leaves no real lacing. The smell of the beer had some funky blueberry aromas to it that weren't overly appealing to me. The taste of the beer was decent but really not anything too special. The mouthfeel was on the thinner side and lacked the softness of most wheat beers. Overall it wasn't the greatest blueberry wheat beer out there. I'd say try a sample before ordering a whole glass. (479 characters)

From A bottle into a weizen glass.

A: Pours a crystal clear copper color with a hint of purple. (I was expecting it to be a little cloudy being a wheat beer). The head started off with 1 inch of white goodness that quickly dissapated into almost nothing. It has very little lacing.

S: This doesn't smell like a wheat beer. I smell malt and faint blueberries with a touch of citrus.

T: With the first sip the beer starts off like a light, amber ale with a mild blueberry flavor but falls short after that. It lacks any real defining character. It's like someone brewed an average beer and dropped some blueberry extract in it. It has almost no finish whatsoever.

M: Very Astringent, almost gritty.

O: I can understand what the brewer was going for but they fell short. It needs more blueberries and less filtering! The bottle reads "blueberry wheat beer". It has no qualities of a wheat beer. I was expecting a lot more. (924 characters)

Served on tap in a shaker pint glass at Delaneys in New Haven CT.

Pours a medium amber with a little foam. Not much lacing. Purplish tint.

Fruity nose, tart blueberry taste that remains in the malt. Not sweet and not overwhelming. Berry in the background, and adds to the flavor.

Blends well, balanced nicely.

Good beer.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Playing Miles Davis- "Kind of Blue" as I review :)

Appearance: Deep amber orange with a lot of bubbles and a decent two finger white head that has good retention and a light amount of lacing.

Smell: Bready Pils malts, wheat, and grains make up most of the aroma. Blueberry fruit smell is noticeable but very mild. A very light hint of grassy hops in the background. Aroma is mostly sweet and bready.

Taste: Sweet pale malts and some wheat grains dominate the taste. A mild flavor of blueberry fruits linger throughout. Blueberry is more noticeable in the finish. No noticeable hop bitterness. Taste is fairly bready and sweet.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a low to medium level of carbonation. Very smooth and creamy.

Overall: A decent beer overall that isn't overbearing on the sweetness which is a problem I find in a lot of fruit beers. That said I still think the blueberries could of been a little stronger. (994 characters)

Proper American barbeques usually feature at the very least a choice of desserts, maybe two or three. Better would be a sampler tray. Best is when the desserts take up a table larger than the grill. I found myself in just such a situation, staring down an assembly of sweets and sugars that added a few more courses to my outdoor meal. The fruits were sweet, the brownies expertly browned, but my final dessert came as a surprise. The Boulder Beer Blueberry Wheat was a surprising conclusion to a parade of sweets, holding its own against the chewables. The aroma is surprisingly thick; many fruit beers have a thin vapor of fruit, but the Boulder Beer Blueberry Wheat was passionately blue and berry. The body is thin, leaving room for the acidic fruit flavor, which starts strongest with the early sip, but keeping a strong consistency through the aftertaste. The blueberry really does feature as the central flavor of this beer, delivering a bright, Spring flavor on a backdrop of clean, wheat flavor. Beers that graft fruit flavors to some light beer style tend to disappoint, but this is a very welcome exception. (1,118 characters)

Pours a dirty copper/amber color with a nice light head that dissipates fast but leaves a bit on the walls of the glass.

Smells slightly syrupy, bits of wheat, and of course some fruit notes but nothing screaming blueberries.

Ehhh, where is the blueberries? Even if its "kinda", its not much. I dont taste much wheat in this either. There is a faint sourness from the fruit with a grain finish. Not bad, but I was hoping for more fruit character.

Light, fizzy, and a good serve-cold-hot-weather beer.

Overall this is my wife's pick and she likes it so thats what matters. This one is a bit old so I will update this review if we come across a fresher one in the future. (672 characters)
