"Small Batch" series at the brewpub in Boulder, CO on 8/11/10. Bartender informed me that this was a whiskey barrel-aged pale ale dry hopped with Galena hops.
A - Cloudy, rusty orange/dark melon-toned liquid with a soft, foamy off-white head that reduced to a creamy skin on top and yielded a modest amount of lace around the glass.
S - Vanilla and citrus notes are apparent right away and work together quite nicely. Overall, the aroma is an intoxicating blend of juicy pineapple, vanilla, sweet malt and a faint hint of wood.
T - First sip delivers a huge smack of juicy pineapple... delicious! The whiskey character is apparent but muted overall, adding a hint of depth and alcohol twang to the flavor, while subtle vanilla and woody notes emerge in the backend. The hint of whiskey and woody notes work surprisingly well with the pineapple and vanilla attributes here.
M - Smooth, creamy and full-bodied for a pale ale with a velvety moutnfeel and a hint of oiliness on the palate. Carbonation is very modest. Finishes with moderate hop bitterness, though doesn't linger for too long.
D - This one surprised the hell out of me! It was so good that I had two pints. Glad I was able to stop in while this was on tap. Delicious pale ale with tons of flavor and a juicy pineapple character that really hit the spot.
