Served on tap in a snifter glass

Appearance – Served a clear amber color with a one finger white head. The head has a light level of retention fading over time to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is sweet and wheaty. A strong wheat aroma mixed with a light fruit aroma of grapes, pear and peach create the bulk of the smell. Mixed with these is a lighter honey aroma as well as a little bit of notes of a floral like aroma. Overall it is quite pleasant.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor with a little bit of wheat mixed within. With these more malty tastes, is a sweet flavor of caramel and honey upfront. The caramel is soon lost, but the honey flavor persists throughout the taste. In the middle of the taste flavors of light fruits of grape and pear enter and last till the end. Flavors of some alcohol and a bit of bitterness and sourness comes to the tongue more at the end of the taste. These flavors actually help round out some of the sweeter flavors, in the end leaving a rather nice warming and semi-sweet flavor to be left on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is average as well. The medium body and higher carbonation (at least for a brew of 11.5%) was good for the sweeter flavors of the brew, but was not too over the top in thinness or carbonation to take away from the more boozy and malty flavors of the brew.

Overall- Its packs a sweet punch upfront and is quite high in alcohol, but still maintains a nice easy drinkability about it. I rather enjoyed this beer and would recommend it as a good sipper after dinner or a nice dessert style brew.

Poured form the tap.

The beer was a nice, copper/red colour with good clarity. The nose was sweet with Belgian yeast, citrus hops, floral hops, and the honey was noticeable. It tasted sweet wheatiness that transitioned into a brief pepper/spiciness, and had a tangy-yeasty finish. The aftertaste was sweet and floral.

Would I buy it again? Yes.

A - orangish with a huge, dense, soft, off white head that has great retention

S - white grapes, some apple, pear, alcohol, some Belgian funk

T - pear, apple, some white grapes, very faint spice, Belgian funk, some warming alcohol in the finish, mildly bitter hop finish

M - medium to full bodied, warm, well carbonated

This is a pretty decent beer. It relies heavily on the yeasty esters, but they seem to be enough. The alcohol is fairly well masked for a bold 11.5%. This is one of the better Boulder offerings that I've had. If you're a Belgian beer fan this is probably worth a try.

22 ounce bomber

Pours a hazy copper orange color, the color of peach skin only a bit darker. There's a head early on, but it isn't impressive and doesn't stick around long.

The smell is complex with some tangy, peppery yeast, a hint of citrusy pineapple, a bit of honey and alcohol.

Grape and pepper start the taste. Pineapple makes an appearance midsip. Citrusy hop presence starts the finish while the alcohol ends it.

Full bodied. Sweet and spicy. Tangy throughout. Each sip brings more bite from the alcohol heat. Acid in the finish. Alcohol isn't over the top, but it's right at the line...after a few sips, my mouth is going numb.

A sipper. ABV is strong, a real manly beer for a saison. Nice taste and I actually like the ABV. I never picked up the honey because it's so subtle.

Poured into a balloon glass.

Look: Deep rich caramel copper color. A cream colored head recedes to a wisp and a ring around the edges. Light spots of lacing.

Aroma: An immediate spiciness, sweet honey, faint floral notes.

Taste: There's an immediate cinnamon spiciness, but I'm sure the alcoholic burn has something to do with that. The honey is infused perfectly, making itself known without being overbearing.

Mouthfeel: Quite sharp. Alcoholic burn.

Overall: Not necessarily as complex as some, but the honey is perfect. And it is good. The 11.5% ABV is hidden as good as it can be.

Pours a hazed bronze color and light white foam and lace. Aroma of malty sugar, Belgian yeast, honey sweetness. In the taste, mild herbal bitterness, sweet malt notes, honey, as advertised, and booze. There are hints of herb, mint, and pepper. Mostly sweet, some alcohol is noticed, but tastes pretty good. Medium bodied, well carbonated, loose, smooth feel with a low level of heat. Overall, this was a big sweet saison, as you would expect from such a name.
