This limited, small-batch release is dark garnet red in color with a candied-fruit like aroma and flavor. At 10% ABV, Killer Penguin is a big barleywine that comes across very smooth and extremely balanced -- the perfect beer to share among friends.

Opened a 2012 bomber bottle, and poured into my Stone goblet...
A - Pours a crystal clear garnet/ruby color, with about a finger of light tan head. Lots of lacing grips the side of the glass as the head falls.
S - Smells of candied fruits. Cherries, dates, figs and caramel malts.
T/M - The smell transfers to taste, but is kinda muddled by an underlying sweetness. I get notes of the fruits, along with a somewhat sweet bubblegum flavor. Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation.
O - Not a bad barleywine. The 10% is not that noticable at all, which is kinda scary. Easily drinkable, but could probably benifit from some aging. I would probably buy this again.

Barley wine bottle share on 1/31/2015. Dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma is a strange caramel and hop mix. Flavor of caramel, raisois and a little hops.

I picked up two of these for cellaring and got one for my brother for his birthday, which I think we enjoyed at Christmas, but its a little hazy. This pours a dense medium brown with an abbreviated head and plenty of caramel malt and dark chocolate and dark fruit tones all dripping with booze. The flavor and texture are actually quite dainty and fluid considering the weightiness of the nose. Plenty of flavor but balanced enough to avoid being smothered in alcohol, Some citrus and pine keeps this drinkable and adds complexity. This was 1 2015. I would absolutely get this again and cellar it again. Strong value here.

See-through rust color.
Big white head; frothy lace.
Caramel malts & grapefruit hops in the nose; def. smells the part.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
The taste is surprisingly subtle; hints of caramel & citrus intermingle but this is not cloying.
Usually this isn't my style, but this was a pleasant surprise.
