16oz can poured into a nonic pint. Canned on 3/4/14
A - Just a shade shy of opaque. Two fingers worth of tan head from a strong pour. Lacing-o-plenty.
S - Bright citrus and tropical hops. Hints at some pine.
T - Malts blend with hops through the entire taste. Easy to detect those sweet rich caramel flavors right away mixing with the citrus hop flavors. There is plenty of bitterness which is spread out along the whole taste and has enough oomph at the backend to be a Double Imperial Black Ale. Hop flavors lasting long after.
M - Medium to medium-full body, medium-light carbonation, semi-dry.
O - The tropical hops are always a welcome aroma for all American styles but wondering how the malt is so hidden. Terrific looking beer with a stiff head. Taste showed some great malt but ultimately was a hoppy brew. I believe a 16oz can is perfect as it usually takes me 12oz to give a full review; 16oz leaves me with four extra ounces to savor sans typing.
Recommendation - How could you go wrong with these three great breweries. Pick it up while it's available. Not sure on whether this will be replicated.

Pitch black body allows no light to pass through. A thick, light brown head with great retention and lacing.
This is a potent black ale, and I love it! More pine and tropical fruit than any other beer I've had to date. Very fresh aroma - clean and earthy. A hint of roasted malt and cola.
This hop forward beer packs a punch. Plenty of earthy pine notes and some and a bit of grapefruit and tangerine. A malty backbone, rich with bittersweet cocoa and roasted coffee. Has an interesting sweet flavor on the finish and it clashes a bit with the booziness of this brew. However, it's still highly enjoyable.
Quite thick for the style and lightly carbonated. Dry finish.
A fantastic brew that is best enjoyed one slow sip at a time. The explosive flavor of this one will catch you off guard if you don't prepare yourself. Worth every penny!
