16 oz. can poured into a snifter. Another outstanding IPA from Surly - one of my favorite breweries for sure. Living proof that wonderful IPAs can be born in the Midwest!!

A - Dark ruby red with very little head. No retention, but excellent lacing. So dark that it almost resembles an English IPA.

S - Very interesting hop profile. The hops are a beautiful blend of oranges and sweet pine that come together nicely.

T - Outstanding. Crisp citrus and piney hops throughout with a nice slightly bitter finish. Not quite as complex or as malty as Abrasive, but still delicious. In comparing this beer to Abrasive, it's worth mentioning that the malt backbone is less pronounced in this beer and so is the intensity of the hop bite. In general, the flavors of the two beers are similar, it's just that the DIPA is obviously more intense than the single IPA.

M - OK, but I could use a little bit more carbonation. The hops are so refreshing that it's a shame that they aren't more pronounced by a little more bubbly.

D - Very drinkable. Not quite drinkable enough to be a session beer, but definitely perfect for dinner, summer BBQ, or just relaxing and enjoying a great beer.

Poured a brownish orange, like dark amber maple syrup. I smell faint hops and malt. A nice solid head on this one, and good lacing. Tastes of mild fruit, though none of note, and some pine, as well as caramel malt. Well balanced, with the malts and bitters in check. Glad I got to try it through a trade.
