Thanks to oakbluff for this gem!
16 oz can
Moderate pour in a shaker
Recent brewing, enjoyed 07/07.
Poured a copper brown with a large rocky fully lasting head.
Smelt of strong pine, resin, spruce and the whole forest of strong hops, pineapple cake, grapefruit, some toasted grain.
Taste was upfront strong bitter piney hops with a moderate sweet toasty malt backbone followed by a harsh bitter resin hops and more of the hops backbone on a lingering resin hops finish.
Palate was medium bodied, oily, lively carbonated, and strongly astringent.
Overall, this is just awesome. Hops galore with a nice malt backbone. Perfect balance. Perfect everything really. Should almost be perfect, but I let my Steel Reserve drinking friend have a sip and he recoiled in disgust. "Too bitter, man! ", he said. So thanks to ballplayin' Jordan and his Steelies it doesn't get a perfect score. I suppose it's a little harsh if you're not used to it. True, it's really harsh and bitter for an IPA. Maybe over the top for some people, but for an experienced hophead this is a nice little treasure.

(on tap at Local Option - served in British pint, I think - can't quite recall)
A: (dry-hopped) cloudy, dark amber liquid... slimy foam that leaves some nice rings of lace
S: Amarillo hops, English yeast?... pine, stewed pear, apple... golden raisin?...
T: bitterness a lil grassy, pesky bite... little alcohol... malt only in the background, light caramel... mostly resiny hops here, somewhat grapefruity, a little peppery... rounded edges, overall dry finish
M: soft, dull-foamy, flat-ish... very easy to knock back quick
O: the bartender's reaction may have said it all: "but that's only a regular IPA... that's all you want?" - haha... never had it before, so yeah! - ended up having 3-4 other beers as well... it's a decent American IPA for sure... having used Amarillo once or twice in recent homebrews, I can smell this damn hop whenever I come across it now, and I dig it - it's distinct, not bright and citrusy, a bit more dank and overripe... glad I was able to try this, disappointed not finding Coffee Bender anywhere though
