Tasted July 27th 2011 (from notes)

Poured into a la Chouffe tulip

A - cloudy burnt sienna, one finger light tan head and a little lacing

S - funky grass, tons of malt, very floral, earth, wood, hops but very underlying and nice wheat and yeast

T - very nice malt, great hops, very floral, some pine, citrus, grapefruit, a bit earthy, some wood, grass, a tad sour yeast, not at all sweet and a bit of wheat. Smells much different than it tastes

M - slightly chewy, medium acidity, long finish, well balanced and a good complexity

D - one of the easiest drinking apa/IPA I have had maybe ever? Tons of flavor, lots of character. Love this beer

Final thought - hey, surly, send your beer our way (ca) your beer is awesome!

How the hell have I never reviewed Furious??? The flagship brew of the flagship Minnesota brewery??? If there was a Minnesota State Craft Brew, it would be furious. Must remediate.

Pours cool, clean amber, with a finger plus of amber. Smell is a good hit of hop, pine, citrus, and a little bit of candy. Taste comes more hop forward, malt nowhere to be found, but the spice of the hops manages to not overpower. Resiny thickness contributes to the drinking experience. Awesome.

A+ beer if you are like me and refuse to accept the numbering system.

No date on the can but I imagine this one is fairly fresh.

A: Rose/amber colored beer which has decent clarity, just a little haze clouds out the light. An off white head forms not unlike sea foam and clings all over the glass.

S: Mango, tangerine, bread crust, and waffle cone.

T: Very crisp showing a fair amount of herbaceous bitterness. Tea leaf like flavors finish out leaving the tongue feeling dry. A subdued malt driven, bread crust like suggestion, lingers in the background. The prominent finishing note is most akin to that of unsweetened iced tea (It sort of looks like tea as well).

M: drying and light

O: Pretty darn good can of beer, and you've gotta love that it's a tall-boy. It's underwhelming in hoppy expressiveness showing mostly muddled herbescent flavors. It's nice and dry finishing however which is a major plus in my not so humble opinion. I would drink more of this if it were around to have.

Pours a dark copper with a two-finger, long lasting cream colored head. Really dark pour for an IPA. Great aroma. Really big tropical notes. Pineapple, mango, peach and fresh pine as well. Very hoppy brew and so delicious. More of a citrus vibe in the flavor profile than in the nose. Good amount of tangerine, some grapefruit and nice bitter pine and floral notes as well. I did get a hint of sweet tropical fruits near the finish. A decent caramel/toffee malt gives the beer some balance. Overall, a big, well crafted, extremely hoppy IPA with the taste of a DIPA. Awesome drinkability and a great, diverse hop profile.

Served on-draught into a pilsner glass in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Reviewed from notes. Expectations were moderate. I can't recall the price.

A: Pours a 1.5 finger head of nice cream, good thickness, and good retention. Colour is a semitransparent amber.

Sm: Very hoppy. Some cream. Moderate in strength.

T: Very hoppy, but luckily these lads at Surly understand the value of balance. Very flavorful and tasty. Some toasted malt in the foundation is pleasant. Nice cream. Very well balanced (rare for an IPA)m and pretty well built. Fairly complex.

Mf: Smooth, wet, crisp, refreshing, and pleasant. Suits the flavours.

Dr: Very drinkable for the style, not falling prey to the pitfalls of overdone coarseness and bitterness. One of the few IPAs I'd have again.

A: Nice golden orange. 1 finger white head. Minimal lacing.

S: Nice hoppy aroma.

T: wonderful balance of malt and hops. One of the better pale ales. Would love to have access to this all the time at my local store.

M: Light-medium body. Good amount of carbonation.

O: Great pale ale. Lives up to the hype.

One of the first IPA's I had. Thought it was time to review after having so many times.

A- Pours a translucent amber with a one finger head that dissipates into a thin cap, leaving some small lines of lacing behind.

S- Pungent citrus and piney hops with notes of orange, grapefruit and grass. Caramel and toffee malt are noticeable in the background as well as some floral notes.

T- Citrus and piney hops are prominent backed up by some caramel and toffee malt, peppery spice and floral hops.

M- Medium carbonation and body. Slightly sticky mouthfeel that finishes a bit dry and bitter.

O- A damn good IPA. Very drinkable and not overly bitter with the caramel/toffee malt presence. My go-to beer whenever I go back to Minneapolis.
