A – Deep maple amber. Incredible lace and nice retention on a foamy khaki head.

S - Pungent citrus and piney hops with notes of orange, grapefruit and grass. Caramel and toffee malt are noticeable in the background as well as some floral notes.

T - There's a lot of fruit character - grapefruit, orange, and some tangerine. The hops actually give the perception of sweetness, though the beer is very bitter.

M - The mouthfeel is very nice. It starts off with a bit of body, then finishes dry. There isn't much carbonation, which makes it nice and smooth. It's very drinkable overall.

O - Awesome IPA from Surly. Glad I got to try this one.

Thanks to Chris for this, canned 12/27/11.

A- A very bright and clear amber color. Pours with a nice off white foamy head. There is a lot of lacing, and great head retention.

S- Mostly pale malt, some grapefruity pine notes. Smells creamy, and not particularly pronounced.

T- Very crisp at first with tastes of roasty malt. It then smooths out, and brings in the grapefruity hops flavor. The beer is nice, but the hop profile isn't anything crazy. It's very dry and lemony.

M- Probably the best part of this beer. Great carbonation, and body. Very nice lingering piny aftertaste too.

O- Overall this beer was good, but nothing crazy. A nice sessionable IPA, but the hop profile isn't my favorite. Good, but a little dry.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for the cans

Review adapted from notes taken 4/3/11 and 7/18/11

Appearance: Dark orange/amber, hazy - white head with great retention, great lacing

Smell: When fresh, this is exploding with hops - dry pine needles (not resin), floral, and some grapefruit - really interesting, nice malt profile underneath - pale, caramel, good balance

Taste: Very hoppy and very balanced - the hop profile is interesting - dry, herbal - tons of pine, citrus flavors emerge out of nowhere as this warms up - grapefruit, tangerine, and some pith - also, floral - pale, caramel malts, with a touch of toffee

Mouthfeel: Medium body, crisp, dry, refreshing

Overall: Very good

Furious is a solid IPA. It has quite an interesting hop profile, but it's just a little too dry for my taste. Other than that, I have nothing but praise.

Update (3/14/12): I wouldn't exactly describe Furious as dry (anymore). It's just that the hop profile leans towards pith, which is just not my personal preference. Store unaltered.

Update (5/11/13): Fresh can via goblinmunkey7. Same overall impression as before, but more tropical notes. Win.

16oz can poured into my 22.5 CBS snifter...glass of drunken champions.

Pours a hazy amber-light brown. Half inch head...fades moderately. Abundant visible carbonation(bubble streams). Thick lacing on glass. Visble yeast chunks....this is my first Surly and I already get what the hype is about.

Smells of hops, hops, hops, medium spice, earth, yeast and hops.

Tastes surprising clean on the front. Hops are flavorful but
delightfully balanced and lacking in bitter(never thought it possible). Light clover, lemon, and coriander flavors. I am in complete awe of the balance of this ale.

Mouthfeel. Sticky bitterness but not to the point of pucker. Pretty clean.
