16 oz. can poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid is somewhere between brown and orange, sort of a gasoline color, maybe slightly darker. There is a nice fluffy white head with tiny bubbles that work their way up to the brim of the glass. The head takes forever to go away and a film stays on the top the whole session. This one took a while to pour out. The clarity is absolutely perfect in every aspect. This is an amazing looking beer, a perfect representation of an IPA in my opinion. Also, the can is pretty cool looking, I like the light green and it looks like a can shaped hop, if only...that'd be awesome.
Smell is good. I've had a few wet hop style beers that are a little underwhelming, this isn't one of them. This is plenty hoppy. It has floral, earthy, and yeasty hints, while at the same time having plenty aromas of tropical fruit, citrus, and pine.
Taste is probably a slight step up from the smell. There is some initial sweetness. Like the smell it has some earthy tones as well. Decent balance between the sweetness and bitterness though. The hops come out at you give some citrus and earthy pine flavors. Sweetness from the malt backbone isn't strong, but it evens things out nicely, finishes with a sharp hop flavor and a little earthy from the yeast.
Mouthfeel is very good. Lighter bodied than I expected. Tries to work it's way towards a medium mouthfeel, but it really has a light one. Excellent carbonation level that is decently balanced. It has a nice light feel with a nice sharp, clean, bitter finish. Drinkability is excellent, perfect on a hot day, but I'll take it in the fall. Nice job Surly, thanks again Noah for sending this one!
