Notes/Commercial Description:
It's been said; "Its easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly's a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day it's just a beer. If yo like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanyboys grab it.

Pours a crystal clear straw color with thin white head and not much head. Nose is dank with resinous hops, strong notes of pine, notes of grass along with a touch of citrus. Definitely smells like a west coast IPA. Taste features strong pine hops up front with increasing bitterness as it goes. By the end, it is like you are sucking on a pine needle. Super hoppy with a dry malty finish. Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated. Overall, this dry and resinous IPA is incredibly refreshing and delightfully hoppy.

16oz can, welcome back to Chicago, Surly!
A - amber ale topped with a frothy off-white head, decent head retention and lacing
S - fruity, citric aroma with pine, tropical mango, caramel
T - similar to aroma; bitter, piny, grapefruity, mango, caramel, bready
M - thinner side of medium body, resinous, finishes dry with lingering pine
O - excellent west coast style IPA. Not my favorite but this will do just fine. A fuller body would have helped this some, otherwise no complaints.

Thank you lurpy1 for this, 16 oz can into tulip

Pours a nice slightly hazy orange hue with a small white head. Smell is spicy citrus hops with some pine resin notes. Taste is citrusy hops with nice piney resin. Medium body with decent carbonation. Overall a great IPA that is a very easy drinker.

Very hopified. Bitter. Sour. Crisp. Light. Weak head and body.

Lacking any significant malty character.

Drinkable for hop heads. Spicy finish. Definitely over rated!

The color is slightly cloudy and golden with the slightest bit of amber.

As the beer warms up, the pleasant caramel notes and toasty character poke their noses out from the clouds to meet the wicked hops.

Nowhere near balanced but still true to the "style" of West Coast IPA.
